Daft question for those of you that have done this sort of thing before:
I'm just fitting a low power Alpine unit to my car. The new unit has an earth lead in the ISO connector. This appears to connect to an earth in the car's harness (a black wire anyway!).
In addition there is a separate "loose" (i.e. not in the block connector) earth connection to the body of the old Philips unit. No mention is made of this connection in the Alpine instructions.

Do I:
1. connect the second "loose" earth lead to the body of the Alpine unit - say using the rear mounting post.
or
2. strip the Alpine earth lead out of the ISO connector and attach to the "loose" earth lead?
or
3. not connect the "loose" lead at all?
or
4. leave anything to do with car electrics to someone else?

even if the answer is 4 I would appreciate some advice anyway.

Thanks

This lead is just a chassis earth for your earlier Philips stereo, had one at the back of my OEM unit, replaced with a Kenwood unit but did not use this cable, used the ISO connector instead, works fine. You could connect the cable, but you don't need it.

If you going to run amps at a later date it may reduce a little amount of noise.

Cheers.

The improvement on just fitting the 45W Alpine unit is remakable.
