Default my 03 sti stereo fault

hi all the standard unit in my car lost its sound about a month ago as we were riding along. The stereo still lit up and continued to work normal but didnt emmit any sound. Called my main dealer and he sent it off to get an exchange unit which came back today, plugged it in ...no different still works fine but has no sound! Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated cos im sick of riding along singing

check for continuity between earth and a speaker lead, once you have found which wire, trace it back to it's speaker, and you will have it trapped somewhere, if no earths are present (remember do do this with the head unit unplugged) then try unpluging one speaker at a time untill you have sound again, and replace the faulty speaker. let me know how you get on.

thx adam thats exactly what i did this afternoon and it turned out to be a rear speaker wire which must have been earthing inside the door.taped her up and away she went, and to think ive spent the last month or so without sounds. it does make ya take notice of all ya car noises though and how nice the exhaust sounds.
thx again for ya time m8.
