Default Just removed my rear speakers and what an improvement

I decided to try and bridge my 4 channel amp to run the front components and remove my rear speakers so some bass could come through from the boot,in my opinion this is the best way to vastly improve sound quality and volume and it don't cost a penny brilliant lol

The fronts now have 150w rms going into each one and removing the rear speakers has made the world of difference to the bass, everything blends together perfect now with a much better stereo sound stage.

Highly recommended set up....if anyone cares lol

Hi. I was thinking of doing the same thing once I get around to installing my amps. I spotted on another thread that you'd used Corsa spacers to mount your speakers. Don't they rattle at all? Used any soundproofing?

nope and nope, lol, the speakers are a perfect fit,no vibration at all, maybe should have used soundproofing but they sound good enough to me,especially with double the power going into them.
I get loads more mid bass up front now and the overall staging is 100% better.

Wish i'd have done it this way to start with lol

the setup may not rattle, but you are most probably loosing some sound quality still without soundproofing.

if i was you, i'd invest in a little (even the Dynamat Speaker kits for circa £13) and you will notice a richer midbass. well thats what i found from experience anyways!

My install has Dynamat in all four doors and the amps are set to run the rear speakers at 10DB less than the fornt. This has made the sound stage in the car feel far more balanced, and stops the rear speakers clouding the componants in the front.

Could do with getting some dynamat around my front components too... I was thinking of powering my rear 6x9s through an amp as I don't have any subs yet and since I have had the components installed in the front they seem to have lost a fair bit of power Failing that I might have a go at running the components thru the amp how much difference did you notice to the sound quality before and after amping them up mate?

Paul,

Yes it worked well in mine, the change in sound and the drop in reverb was amazing, wouldn't think of using anything less.

Running the front and the sub through the amps made a huge difference. This lets the system deliver the power far more easily and drive the speakers without stressing them. I have an Alpine 9835 H/U with Diamond audio s600s Components in the front, M30's in the rear door and a Diamond Audio Hex 12/4 Sub. This is all run from two D5 Diamond Audio Amps. One four channel for the doors and a two channel which has been mono blocked to run the sub. I could have run all of this from the H/U but it just sounded crap, the amps brought it to a whole new level oh and cost but it was well worth it.

Dave99, cheers matey i think im gonna have to have a bit of an experiment with mine, Im currently running a Pioneer DEH P77MP head unit with some 330w pioneer TS A6910 6x9s in the back and 220w pioneer components in the front...i had the 6x9s put in first and the bass they produced was VERY impressive...although since the components have been fitted they have sounded much less impressive which is why my instinct is to run the 6x9s thru the amp! Might have a go at running each set of speakers thru an amp independantly and see what happens!

Hi all,

I too removed the rear speakers on my scoob to let my sub 'breathe'. It did make a great improvement to the depth of sound, the sub seemed to struggle before. Also upon removal of the rear's I found that they had been totally destroyed by my sub, must have been moving the cones and ripped themno wonder they rattled.

I have Infinity 605's in the front on a Kenwood 923 amp. The sub is now an RE SX12 in a ported box powered by a Viper d600.1. I removed the rears when I had my old Rockford sub which I killed with the Viper amp.

Hi everyone again, an update!

Finally got round to buying an amp and decided in the end to run the 6x9s through it and leave the components running through the head unit...what a massive difference! The bass is now very deep and clear, the 6x9s will comfortably run with loudness set to 'high' so the treble sounds much better also, very impressed in general and so far I've not had to adjust the amp from the factory settings!
Current set-up is now:

Pioneer P77MP head unit
Pioneer TS-A171C components in the front
Vibe Black Box 1 amp
Pioneer TS-A6910 6x9s

I'll be having more of a play about tomorrow!
