Default What to do for rear sounds ?

Any advice on what to do with my ICE greatly appreciated, car is a MYOO.

Upgraded head unit to an Alpine 4x50w CD. Put 13cm Kenwood componments in the front (with sound deadening) ...already wishing I had got bigger ones, but could I tell the difference if i changed them to the next size up ?

Got the rear shelf out and pondering what to do there, as I have a Kenwood subwoofer tube with a built in amp, its rated at 50W (+ 50W) with freq response of 20-300hz. So if i put this in do I need to bother going upto 6x9s in the rear ? Could I just buy a decent pair of round speakers..my local halfords has a pair of Pioneer 17cms reduced to £40, will they fit ?

As I said, all help welcome !

Rick

Upgrade to 6.5's in the front doors with vauxhall corsa spacers and leave the rear speakers out so you just have 2 holes going into the boot, you'll be able to hear the sub then
I had some rears in the back of mine for ages and have recently removed them and it sounds so much better.

i didn't remove the rear shelf, but where the speakers are mounted there are brass coloured mounting plates,i just took those out,i think thats what you'd have to do to fit your 6*9's,but personally i'd just put some nice components up front and have your 2 jbl subs going in the boot,my subs are jbl 12's as well, they sound good and can handle loads of power.

To get the shelf out, remove the rear seats, the bench then the back rest, then the trim running down the side of the door, held in by screw at the top, then pull the C pillar trims off - you will feel as though something is going to break but mine didn't. From inside the boot or from the back seat you can gently, at first, Push/pull the shelf up to release the 4 poppers holding it to the metal, then its a case of prizing it away from the glass at the rear as some of the bonding from the window seems to attach to the shelf making it damn difficult to get the shelf out !

Which 6.5s did you fit and I assume you have a classic, not a new age ?

Rick, put the current front's in the rear, and upgrade the fronts to the infinitys, that will be a start, you want as much clarity and sound upfront. when you go and see a band live, they are in front of you, the bass is ok in the boot as its omnidirectional, you want to make it sound like the band is on the dashboard, and you only have the rears for a bit of "rear fill". Hope this helps. it's well worth the effort and cost, alpine headunit is perfect, just add a good quality amp in the future if you want to go that far, and maybe a better sub
