Default amp under the seat.

Hi there, i've been getting loads of info from this forum tonight...thanks all

I've now decided to amp my front infinity 6500cs speakers with an unused 100x2rms RF amp I have. I have read that a few people have them ounted under a front seat, is this something i can do myself? If so, how do you fix it to the floor...just drill and bolt up?

Thanks in advance

I fitted mine myself without too many problems. I ran all the cabling under the carpets so it looks pretty neat even if i say so myself.

You can drill and bolt, but i just used velcro and it seems to have worked just fine.

If you want anymore info let me know.

Have a scan under there - my classic has an airvent for the rear passengers. Don't want to knacker the amp come winter when you blow hot air around the car.

Cover the vent with gaffer tape. Job done

I'd bolt the bugger down with self tappers.

velcro will be more than sufficient as long as it takes to your carpet, which it will on scoob stuff, cables if tucked out of the way and are tight will keep it fairly well positioned as well so the two combined together will hold it ok.

Only problem is if you have an accident, the amp will come unstuck and probably whack you over the legs before hitting you on the head (if you roll)

My amp fits neatly under the passenger seat. Chiark's instructions helped:

cables will keep it in check if fitted properly

I'm sorry, but in a (proper) car crash, the cables will not hold the amp in place at all. It will fly straight out from underneath the seats and break your feet / legs.

henrik, has a point, i have a mutlichanger under mine held on with velcro, but i also know that at 30 mph (from what i have been told) a box of tissues will hit the front window from the rear parsal shelf with the same force as a house brick.

so a amp/or anything else, could/might cause you alot of pain :-(

it would also have to get past the heater vent and the workings of the seat, i just dont see it happening as easy as you think it will!
having said that though my own amps are mounted on the rear of the back seats on an amp board, they sit quite nicely there i think and are mostly out of the way.

If you have a crash that invloves enough force to get an amp backwards from under the passenger seat, up into the air, across to your side of the car and into your head, frankly, velcro'd amps is the last of your worries. And yes, if it's wired up soundly, it shouldn't move. You can dangle a couple of hundred kilos off my power cable...

Im sorry but i did have a 'proper crash' (my photo's were on this site some time ago) and my amp was under my seat. when i returned to the scrap yard to recover anything, after being in hospital for over a week, the amp was still there!! and i hit a roundabout and flipped onto the roof. It was velcroed in and my earth cable and power cable were nice and fat and correctly installed preventing any broken legs, well not from the amp anyway. But if you want to self tap it in thats fine too. why does everyone on here have to slag off other peoples ideas. if you dont agree then just say 'i dont agree imo but try this....'and so on. its much more polite. Not just this thread so much but in the main one its riffe. Willsy

Well, I still stand by my opinion, and I was not slagging anyone off, although perhaps I could have chosen my words better

I still think that if you have a head on collision (i.e. one where the car stops abruptly), the amp may well come out from underneath the seats and hit you on your legs.

Smitters: I never said that the amp had to come out backwards. A hefty lump of metal will have no problems going straight through some plastic heater wents and causing enough damage to the seat frame to penetrate into the foot well.

As for power cables' tensile strength; yes, I'm sure you can dangle several hundred kilos off the average 4awg or thicker cable, but that doesn't mean that the connectors that connects the cable to the amp will be able to support the same weight/forces.

If you had a crash which was powerful enough to cause the above to happen, the last thing you want is additional damage from an amp, no?

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this matter. I think that the proper place for an amp is in the boot, out of harms way.
