Default Alpine or Genesis???

Need some opinions please!

I have an Alpine MRV-F407 Running two Infinity Perfect 12 VQs (A little under powered for the job I know) and a Phoenix Gold M44 Running two sets of Infinity Kappa 6" Componenets.

The trouble is I have a lot of buzzing/interference when the engine is Running. All my earths go to the same distribution block which is then earthed to the chassis. I have an engine earthing kit fitted. Plus Two (one for each set of pre outs) earth loop isolators in front of the Phoenix Gold M44. All cables do not overlap each other as they are routed seperately down the floor of the car.

I have moved the earth of the head unit to the same point as the amps.

But still I cannot get rid of the buzzing. If I hook up the Alpine to the components the buzzing goes. If you turn up the gain on the Phoenix Gold the buzzing gets worse. I also stripped the amplifier down to paint it as the White and Gold 80s look didn't look quite right.

I think the Phoenix gold is dead.

So what amp do I get to replace it?

Was thinking of swapping the Alpine on to the Components and get a beefier amp for the subs.

But waht one?

Alpine MRD-M1001 or an MRD-M1005

or a genesis Dual Mono?

Thanks again

Martin

are you sure its the PG amp? hook up the alpine amp in place of your PG amp and see if noise is still there. are you using cheap cables? you shouldn't need suppressors or earth loop isolators either they dont get rid of problems just hide them a bit.
you might be able to get the PG amp repaired if it is broken, its a quality bit of kit m8, get it fixed and dump the alpine if i was you, if you do need it fixing i could give you a number of an Audio specialist where i used to work who would be able to get it sorted for you with the importers of PG.
Oh and Genesis is much better quality than Alpine go that route if you need to.

I believe a supressor will hide the noise, though it will still be there, though when i had this problem, i invested in some decent phono leads cost near £70 each..and the buzzing went away..

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies!

I personally can hear no difference in sound quality between the Alpine or the PG (when the engines Off) when they are running the components.

I dont think its the cabling thats the problem. I have spent more than £400 on cables to date. The power is via 2 4 guage lines with 120amp fuses near the battery feeding a 4 way fused distribution block. The Earthing is via another 4 way distribution block going to the chassis via 4 guage cables.

All my RCAs are stinger.

The noise does go when the alpine is running the components. Would earthing the PG casing make a difference?

go to a ICE specialist and see if they can get the amp tested for you, normally only a nominal charge for this? worth a shot to find out

I had a similar problem when i was running my 2 kicker IX402 amps and 2 12" Lanzar subs and JBL GTO 6x9's. It would be fine for a bit then just out the blue the buzzing would start, i changed to good leads, separated earth and power cables as far apart as possible all to no avail. Turned out the amps were the problem. Cant remember why, but changed them and all was well. Stiil got the amps though, i think one is blown and the other has loose RCA conectors which also didnt help!. Willsy
