New Head unit and Changer
#1
I'm in the process of looking round at new
head units to replace the original scooby one.
After reading all the threads and listening
to a few I really fancy the Pioneers with
the OEL displays, so either the
DEH-7100R or the 8100R (the 9100 is way too
much pennies), and a 6 disc changer.
Anyway, I went into Halfords (just to look),
cos i will be buying from the net and the lad
in there says that all the ranges will be
changing at the end of march/beg of April and
to hang on for the end of season sale!.
Is this likely to happen?, if i'm going to
buy from the net do the internet firms
usually have good deals on at this time coming up?
Any ones thoughts on this appreicated and also
whether anyone has had any probs with the
Pioneer stuff?
cheers

Chris,
Ok, here is what little I know on the subject. Pioneer units are generally as good as any, my friend has a 8900 (tape version of 8100 I think) in his scooby, and the dolphins OEL thingy is novel, but he says distracting.
I have a colleague who has a 6100 (basic model featuring OEL) and it is in an Audi Coupe where head is right at the top of the dash, and he has no complaints!
Apparently the CD Changers are wired differently to most makes, don't know why or whether this matters!
As for buying on the net, which is usually the best policy, often companies don't list the clearance items. What I am about to suggest is harsh and embarrassing, but go a buy a copy of 'Max Power' magazine next month, it is full of adverts for ICE companies and I have always found this to be the cheapest source of Car Audio! When you get to the newsagent I suggest you wear suitable disguise and hide it under Evo!
