Cheers. You are full of facts !!
Agreed these speakers are great. I need another because I wish to have one in each of the rear footwells . 1 is great but 2 would be better. I have a source in Savannah called "KIMBALLS" who are a very good company only $109

Wotcha Luke. I've been accused of being full of many things, but not normally facts
Isn't the 8W6 quite a deep woofer? How much rear space will you lose in the footwell? This could be a storming place for an install...
Have you thought about the Infinity ultra flat things? They make an 8 which is incredibly shallow.

8W6s dont have much punch compared with a paper coned woofer.
Plus the w6 range is heavily outdated now having not received a revamp in many years, IIRC the terminals are still spades which are thoroughly crap.
I would definitely look into a more modern sub, but specifically a paper coned model.
As long as you avoid rockford
Speak to prestige audio or audio images in bradford, once again, I know that they ikmport very individualistic makes of subwoofer which will blow you away for punch.
Plus they will truly work well in a small box, which although JL claims theirs will do, in my experience (a lot with w6s) it is bollocks.

1. Agreed spade terminals are crap. But I'm a solder fan.
2.The 8 W6 was one of the all time classics in the states.New does not always mean better. Also I like a company that does not feel that it must change its products every year. If it is good leave it.
3.So what would you reccomend??? 8.inch only
Cheers

I take your points and note them.
Solder by all means, but if you loko at teh quality of the solder terminal it is weak and flexible, which does not bode well for a sub of that price.
Also if you look, you will see that JL has released new products consistently such as the W0,W3 and W4, and although aimed at different price points, they are actually capable of generating greater spl. Although this is not my thing.
Subwoofer design has actually come a heck of a long way since the W6 and it certainly is time for them to move on. I dont doubt they are capable of mixing it with the best of the rest, I just ersonally feel that most people buy JL on the strength of the competitive success and would find they preferred the sound of other makes.
I cant tell you which, as I dont have your ears, but if punch is what you want, then a plastic based cone is never going to compete with a treated paper cone, as it simply isnt as light.
You could try diamond audio subs who make very bold claims about their cone weight and strength. These are sold by prestige audio in rayners lane in nw london. Be warned they arent cheap.
The punchiest 8s I ever owned are severely outdated now, these being JBL * inch gt series. 4 in sealed box, not small, but blows the wind out of your lungs.
Aside from this try petras.
Soundstream used to make an 8 inch woofer which was great sa did boston acoustics.
Have to say, I have semi left the car audio scene, but I remember enough to know that 8W6s are not the best way to deliver what you are talking about.
Please ring Khalid, he has dealt with this problem so many times that there is no one else I would trust to handle it better.
01274 733 633.
Tell him Adam sent told you to call and he will treat you seriously. they tend to get a lot of drug dealing timewasters up there so he needs to filter out the crap first.
Good luck

Cheers .Did give a call ,he has a new range called "AUDIO BAHN" coming next month that sounds good.
Will let you know
It is true ,those terminals are a bit Krap!!!
But also in 1957 "QUAD" built the most famous domestic speaker in the world The "57"
It might not be good for the "JUNGLE &BASS/DRUM SQUAD" but for pure music the dogs
I get pissed of sometimes when all this new stuff comes out. We are like kids in a sweet shop!!
No names but for the last 3 years a very top company has re-cased it amps and told the public it was a new product and 1 magazine said they where better.!!!!
Still will always listen and try !!
Cheers for help

I have actually seen the audio bahn speakers in the flesh, and jesus are they meaty. The rubber surround is strong enough to take my weight, and if you try to push the cone in and feel the resistance from the magnet, youll be mazed, and that is without even connecting the terminals.
Very impressive construction. I havent heard them yet, but if Khalid says they are worth listening to then i will give them a try.
