Default best head unit for controlling IPOD?

I have a becker which is currently doing a great job in my audi, but they don't tend to fit in japanese dashboards.

Anyone suggest an alternative?

I am thinking alpine at the moment as I have yet to ever buy one.

trouble is, there are new units out which are confusing me.

Biolite displays?

some kind of slidy button thing

and some units requiring a plug in ipod adapters whilst others operating ipod high speed just plugging straight in.

Any ideas or some clarification would be great.

thanks.

I was looking at these 2, probably get the Pioneer because it is £500 cheaper.

I have Pioneer in mine. As long as you buy a unit with "P" in the name you will be ok as teh P indicates it has a multichanger input. You can then buy a little box of voo-doo which plugs into the ipod and the multichanger socket an you control the ipod form the stereo. Unit is about £50 and a pioneer can be had from around 150 upwards. I have DEH P6800 in mine and it sounds great even through the standard speakers which are coming out next week.

My pioneer needed to be modified with the dremel to make it sit nice and flush - looks good with the silver pocket - can email pics if wanted

I have Pioneer AVIC-X1R in mine with iPod adapter, works a treat but best to create playlists for ease of use whilst driving.

Mine does the same but I have to go into setup and use the Function 3 button, this will then display track names etc. I have 6 Func buttons/options that each display / do different things. I think F2 is album name.

I have an Alpine 9850Ri works fine for me, i couldnt justify spending more than a couple hundred on a stereo lol Doesnt need an adaptor box either, IPOD cable plugs directly into the back of the unit.
