You are right the 18mm mdf is what i would suggest as the spacer, the fronts do need to be used with sound deading though for the best sound.
If you have any problems feel free to call me.

I just used the spacer plate provided to key the speaker to the original mounts. Had no problems with windows, I do agree with needing sound deadening, I put a little behind the speaker, but need to put some in the whole door... I'm thinking of doing the whole car, just deciding what to use.... carpet underlay and foam seems popular, and inexpensive for expreimental purposes... ie, if that works, imagine how how good the proper stuff will be

Theres no need for an MDF speaker for the Mid cone.
Using the Infinity metal spacer that comes with it, screw it straight into the standard subaru mounts and then screw in the speaker - no messing and it doesn't catch on the window..

Ooosp, don't know why it double posted before, sorry about that, but basically I agree, and thats what I was saying, no need for the mdf spacer.
However, would like to know where I could get my hands on the brackets used for the tweeters ..

I must differ with you.
May be things are different on my 99 sti ver5 but when i put the speakers in with out the spacer they hit the window.
With the spacer the speakers do not vibrate or distort, they also need some space from the door to the magnet.
