Which Rear speakers?
#1
Anyone got any favourites for the rear shelf - do 6*9's fit (I dont have a clue)
I dont rearly want subs as I want to retain boot so I want some of the bassiest ones possible with excellent clarity
I have the Dynn's 2way components or possibly Diamond 3 ways planned for the fronts (with soundproofing) and will prob use a Soundstream/Genesis amp -are these amps over the top if I dont use subs?
If I do use subs will having rear speakers detract from the sound? - as installs are better normally without the rear to let the sound flood thru? - but I can remove the rears at a later date - or should I just keep them in (if I chose subs - unlikely) - is there such a huge difference running both?
Thanks in advance for comments

Dave ,
IMHO , Even if you have 1 x 10" sub , do it , there is a lot of sound missing out of music without bass , I have 2x 12" in a box which I made (took me a day to make , but worth it) , and still have considerable boot space left .
Regarding speakers on the shelf , you only want them to be there in the background , or as it is known in the ICE trade 'Rear-fill' , if you have A Sub , the rear speakers don't have to be so crucial .
As for Genesis amps , VERY GOOD , I have a monoblock and it does the biz , they have lots of combos all wrapped into one amp , give Genesis a call direct , they are based 5 minutes away from me , Call Southend (01702)611180 , the Prop. of the company is Gordan Sinclair and he knows alot about amps , he would best tell you what you need for your particular install .
Hope this helps

How are people fitting the subs?
How doyou secure them without creating a series of holes in the boot floor? - velcose does not work on a moving carpet floor?
I think I'll not bother with the 6*9's then.
I hear that you cant have that much Bass in a Scoob as it vibrates like mad in the boot and Soundproofing is a nightmare in the rear of the car
Also too much of a Bass enclosure may crack the rear spoiler -I have heard of this happening.
I think I'll try Tony Nesta.
I had a problem with a previous car with two subs with one only working intermitently -annoyed me so much that I didnt want to do it again - probably the connections - but I could not find a fault and when both subs kicked the sound was great!
Thanks

I've fitted a wedge shaped box that takes up the space behind the seats -
Its secured by screwing into the box through the support for the back seats.
Others have fitted a sub box into the side of the boot to retain the folding seats. The passenger side is a better bet here, as the petrol filler is on the right.
A generally accepted way of mounting things is to make a firm base/floor first with the necessary mounting points, then screw into this.

Looks nice
I'm off to Cheltenham Car Hi-fi centre next Wednesday to have a chat with them as they are authorised Genesis dealers
I've decided I want a system that will give me a head massage
This means lots of soundproofing and at least two decent amps!

Chiark,
Like you , I have a wedge shaped box (different angle near seats to the rear , was a complete bu66er!!!) , I made it almost exact fit to the shape of the inside of the boot/trunk , then made a new 3/4" MDF floor which keeps the subs in situe , using the existing spare wheel well cover holes as anchoring points for the new floor , I hasten to add that from the new floorpan , I cut out the hole for gaining entry to my spare wheel (hope I don't need it!) , as I said , when all is finished , I'll have a bash at posting some pics.
Nate.
