Default Sub woofer anyone?

My ICE expert says I need a sub woofer in the boot to improve sound quality of my wagon.

Any comments (useful ones)

can't say i've heard your existing system, so can't comment specifically.

i put my first sub in a rover 416 git (no, not a typo). made a hell of a difference. i'm no expert, but it did make a massive improvement to the overall sound. since then, i've had an AX GT (added a sub), calibra (added a sub), 306 GTi-6 (yep, you guessed it, i added a sub) and now wrx saloon (with sub of course). i would like to make the enclosure smaller so i have more boot space, but having had a sub in my car for a while now, i don't think i could drive one without for too long - after a while you miss the bass definition!
you won't have to spend a fortune to start with - speak to a few people about trying it on a budget and see how you get on. worked for me

Think carefully about what you want before you start.
Do you want to lose bootspace?
Do you want to be able to remove the sub-boxes, amp etc?

In short, try to cover the practicalities of it first.

Easiest would probably be an Infinity Basslink. You can get amp/sub/box combinations for the same or less money but they'd be more intrusive space wise and heavier to lug around if you needed to. Plus it'll need more thought given to fixing it all in place.

Most practical would probably be one or a pair of "stealthbox" type enclosures in the rear quarters of the boot with 10" or 12" subs.

Need an amp and a crossover (or an amp with one built-in) really.

With a wagon you can get a 12" sub on the passenger side of the boot and give it around .7 cu ft of space to play into. Or you can use a stealth box from somewhere whose name escapes me right now.

I used a diamond audio M6 12 d2 to good effect like this - I'm afraid I binned the box a few weeks ago, otherwise you'd have been welcome to it. Oops. It was made out of MDF with fibreglass to do the difficult curved bits.
