Rear Speakers in an MY04 Wagon
Hi,
I've checked the FAQ's and done a search but have drawn a blank on this one (someone is bound to correct me!)
I have struggled to find a half decent speaker for the rear doors on my wagon that will fit without surgery!
This afternoon I have had a ferret about and managed to run cables from the original speaker connections in the doors, through the cable ducts into the B pillars and back into the load space.
I don't want to start cutting any trim panels so it is my plan to build a shallow box (150mm) to sit at the front of the load area with a pair of 170mm speakers in. I intend to isolate the speakers from each other with a couple of baffles and to port each individual enclosure to the rear and loosely fill them with Glass Fibre. The connection will be via a 4 way plug so the box is removable if I need to carry a large load.
For info I have junked the original Kenwood thing and now run an Alpine 9850Ri with an ipod that lives in a Forester pocket. Front speakers are Kenwood 170mm 3 ways (about 10 years old and been in 4 of my cars but they sound good!) This is a vast improvement in sound over the OEM stuff. The ipod works fine with the HU. I am thinking of a set of Kenwoods for the back, too. Or would you go for 6 x 9's? I think there is a theory that they do not sound as good as a round speaker and were invented for narrow back shelves.
Has anyone done this? Is it a completely bonkers plan? All help gratefully received.

rears are good for rear fill only, you dont go to a concert and have the band behind you!! I got some 4" JBL's for my 02 STI but like I say, only to fill the space - Rockford in the boot and alpine components up front will be my chosen set-up.
