Default Speakers for rear of Classic

Rears in my Classic are crappy carozzia (sp) 6" as fitted at the factory I assume and they distort like hell with even a sniff of bass.
I've looked at a few places but Halfords (yes, I know ...) have 1 or 2 in stock and the Fusion FES-602S

- will, I think, just drop in which I like the idea of but are they a worthwhile fitment or for that sort of money - £40 - is there better ?

I never comment on what are good, or bad speakers, either for the money or otherwise.

The ONLY way to choose speakers is to LISTEN to them.

The ones I have in my classic were chosen by the simple method of taking my youngest to Halfords, who had a good selection at the time, and narrowing down the choice to 3 or 4 front and the same rear.

I then turned my back, while he switched off all fronts and changed from one to another rears. Once I decided which I liked, he did the same with fronts.

Guess what? BOTH sets of speakers were Sony!

I still love the sound, they perform flawlessly, and other folk have asked what they are as they sound so good.

NEVER, NEVER buy on recommendation.

Fair enough - the ideal however is to hear them in the environment that you will be using them in as some might be better in one environment than others but once installed in your car they don't perform as expected ?

bear in mind that fitment isn't a huge issue. The metal parcel shelf is incredibly thin, and hence you can drill holes in it very easily. (watch the window!)

I installed a set of Alpine 6x9's in the rear, which made a significant difference in performance.

The only advice I would give it to take your time, and if you can, dynamat the entire shelf, as it will give you a better basis to work from.

I went out and bought the Fusions and when I went to actually fit them I discovered that the current 6" speakers were fitted in a hole that was actually in an aditional little metal plate which had been screwed to the shelf to occupy some of the room that a pair of 6"x9" speakers had previously been in so I could have bought 6x9s anyway with no extra drilling or cutting involved. PITA as that would have given the benefit of easier to find, beefier speakers : I may end up with installing the new 6" into the front (if they will go) and getting 6x9"s for the rear at some point.

It sounds better already but as the old ones fell to bits it it as removed them it's no surprise !
