CD Changer Under Seat- OK or Not?
#1
Just done an install yesterday and after much thought decided to put the changer in the boot. It would have gone just nicely under the passenger seat but there are heater ducts under there and I was worried too much heat might be an issue. Has anyone put one here and if so any problems?. I was also worried about drilling holes for the mounting brackets through the carpet in case there was any wiring etc under there. Opinions anyone?

Les,
I had mine installed under the seat by my dealer. Never had any probs with it there although I was a bit shocked to find that they had screwed the thing to the floorpan. Made it secure, but is just asking for rust to develop.

I secured a CD changer with Velcro to the carpet underneath the passenger seat on my last Scoob (a type R, so no heater ducts to worry about) and never had any problems with the discs skipping etc.
Try using the sticky backed stuff made by sellotape comes in a small cardboard envelope, use the looped (yellow IIRC) half of the Velcro and stick it all over the bottom of the changer. Then sit the changer on a thin piece of card so it cover's all the Velcro stickers and enables you to position the changer in place. Once located correctly slide the card out and there should be just enough room to slide your hand on top and put a bit of pressure on the changer.
If you fit it this way, just make sure that you connect all the changer wires and check it is working ok before fixing in place, as the Velcro is a bugger to pull off the carpet!

I know everyone says don't do it but I put the cd changer in the glovebox. Admittedly I was quite free with cutting out the plastic roof of the glovebox but once I'd done that, I found a solid metal tube about 1 1/2" in diameter with some brackets attached. I made up a couple of mounting brackets to attach to teh cd changer and it seems to be fine. Admittedly it's only a small 6 disc changer but there's still room for some junk in the glovebox.
I don't want to start a whole thread about the merits of where to put the changer but it suits us fine.
Sadly on the rare occaisions I drive the car the only cds in the changer are telly tubbies and nursary rhymes
