Mstation MP3 Installed
#1
Installed my Traxdata MP3 Mstation this weekend (Thanks to DemonDave on the other thead for the tip). Can beleive it was £199, called in my local Halfords yesterday and they are still selling at £599! What a bargain
As a complete ICE novice, Ive managed to install it and it is working OK. I had to use the FM modulator as the std subaru double din hasnt got RCA inputs. I think I need to get a new head unit now that has, as well as some decent speakers.
Ive fitted the unit under the passenger seat which seems fine. The remote is in front of the ash tray, but as I dont smoke this is no problem. I have around 600 tracks on there and there is still over 7.5Gb free
The only small problem is that it doesnt power off with the ignition like the head unit, I have to remember to switch it off manually. I have taken the power from the head unit, but I presume there is more than one wire, and I want the one that gets cut off by the ignition. Anyone any idea?
Here are some pics..........

There's two power cables that go to the head unit - one permanant, and the other one switched.
The cabling to the head unit on previous to the MY01 to me seems a little 'inspirational' & I wouldn't personally trust it to either supply enough power or to even switch off... The MY01 might be more trustworthy! I've stuck with using the 'off' button myself, but if someone has a wiring diagram (that is right - I've never come across one that's entirely correct & so did mine with a multimeter) you could try wiring it to the switched. The worse that can happen if it doesn't supply enough power is that it doesn't switch on. Or I suppose blow a fuse in the scoob wiring loom, but only one of the tiddly ones...

Michael,
Someone suggested glueing a piece of MDF to the floorpan under the carpet and then securing the MStation or any changer unit to that.
The seats come out dead easy and you can pull-back the carpet by removing the rear seat and any trim.
My dealer thought it would be a good idea just to use self-tapers and screw it through the floorpan itself

Ozzy,
Self tappers are fine to use, and you will get a more sturdy mounting. Just check many times that you're nowhere near anything delicate!
Nick.
(you can guess which method I advocate - but I've got an old CD changer which is a tad sensitive to undamped vibration)

Michael,
The remote is just attached using the supplied Velcro! The velcro is on the back and the top of the remote and holds it very securely.
To fit the hard disk I took the seat out and used the supplied screws to attach it to the underside of the seat. I did think about attaching to the floor underneath the seat but I was worried about making holes in the bottom of the car

Many thanks to Lee for sourcing the MPlayer - I was one of the lucky few to get one of these from the said thread and installed the unit as above, almost exactly the same way (used switched power though). As I suspected, due to the noise of a SS backbox, FM modulator quality is not really an issue, other than picking up a whining interference with a soft song, high volume accelerating hard. In the last 2 weeks, I have yet to hear the same song twice!
For those of you thinking of getting one of these, I would highly recommend them ;-)
