Default Which is best...?

I am looking to replace the HU in the Subarufus... Any opinions on what manufacturer?

Pioneer
Alpine
Clarion
Kenwood

These all spring to mind. Also seen Blaupunkt, Vibe/Fli, JVC

Probably just looking for CD/Radio/iPod/phone functions as would prefer a more portable SatNav solution

Thanks

hi i used to be into the ice scene big time!! from my experience you wont go wrong choosing ALPINE ...sometimes a bit complicated to work but by far the best all round quality

The first 4 you mention are good, personally I would go for Alpine or Pioneer. How much are you looking to spend and what other kit are you planning?

I have not finalised a budget yet, but from the Pioneer catalogue I have here, a few choices at different price points...

AVIC-F900BT £800 ish
AVH-P4000DVD £400 ish
FH-P80BT £200 ish

Am planning on doing head unit ASAP, then front components and rear sub (Pioneer TS-WX77A in the rear of my wagon maybe). Need iPod connection (better than what my fold out AVIC had) and bluetooth phone connection (ideally want a cradle or cable but understand these are declining as phones change so fast)

Need to connect a Sub and maybe amp up the fronts also...

I would like a more portable Sat-Nav so that I can use it in other vehicles, so
I might dismiss something like the AVIC-F900BT. I also want to update speed cameras as needed and I was told Snooper have the best database for this.

There are a few bits on eBay but I am a bit wary of some of the ones that come from USA in case they donyt work here - region 1 dvd, sat radio etc.

Thanks for the responses, I will go get myself some info on Alpine aswell

Only thing I would say against Alpine is that if you are using the bluetooth adapter (300bt) with the ipod link then I had lots of problems - tried 4 and they all introduced a lot of noise into the system. There is a new bt unit out soon (350bt) which will hopefully resolve this.

Still not decided what to do...

AVIC-F900BT £800 ish - proboably don't need the DVD player, so the F700BT looks better & cheaper and I get on board SatNav, iPod ready, phone ready...

AVH-P4000DVD £400 ish

FH-P80BT £250 ish Could start with this and get the front components and the 8.2cm sub for the boot all in one go... tempting

Anyone seen this flat sub Pioneer have. I am not looking to shake the car with bass, it's a musci thing not a "look at me" thing

Will get to the Alpine dealer at weekend hopefully!

I used to sell fit and compete a little, I personally would go for alpine as they have one of the best sounds around and are very versatile, also if you just want a bit of bass to fill in talk to my friend chris at Extreme Audio and say ian with the black scooby sent you. He will do you a good deal and he is very intelligent about audio indeed.

Popped in to the Alpine dealers earlier...

All looks like good stuff, but more expensive overall than Pionner. And it all seems to come as seperate modules. Sperate bluetooth module, sperate iPod lead, seperate Nav (portable with a cradle, nice idea).

I do like the new sat-nav that is portable though and can be slotted in behind the dash mounted 7" screen, that seems to fit the bill. Will do some more reading up and stuffs..

Thanks for the links, will take a look

The JVC is worth checking out - superb quality unit.

Car Audio Direct - JVC KW-AVX810 - Mobile Video

I've been really happy with mine, it plays any format I put on it. You can add iPod, bluetooth, DAB. I have my satnav on my phone.
