Ipod Transmitter...
Hi People,
Anybody running an ipod in their car using an fm transmitter? Am looking to get a 3rd gen nano and wondered if the transmitters are any good- have heard they are a bit crap but never hurts to ask about!

I tried one on my nano, but to be honest wasn't really impressed. the problem I had was interference on the channel, and as I drove in different areas had to keep retuning to get a clear signal. also you still have to use the ipod controls. Best otion I took on an older car was a cassette adapter which works fine on my old ford stereo, but the Subaru one keeps ejecting it out so I cannot use it.

This was to be used in my 'K' plate Citroen ZX diesel workhorse, replacement Blaupunkt head unit fitted- no tape deck here i'm afraid. Hmm... back to the drawing board for this one. Cheers Daz.

i installed a hard wired fm transmitter in mrs g's meriva. does an ok job, but it has affected radio reception.
it's a veba AVFM-MOD01 - WWW.VEBA.UK.COM - Modulators, Switchers, Video Amps: AVFM-MOD01
just noticed they do a fakra version, which would probably have fixed the radio reception issue, but it's done now and i'm not taking the dash apart again!

But I sold that car, and being on a budget, I bought a transmitter to hook up to my hawkeye... and although it does the job, the sound quality is poor. There always seems to be a slight buzzing noice, especially when the volume is turned up which is annoying.
I was thinking of getting a cassette adpator, but decided against that too.
I think one of the advantages of hooking it directly to the headunit is it also charges the ipod so you never run low on battery.
Think I'll just save up for one of those ipod ready double dins

Best bet is to find someone who has one and lend it to you so you can see how it sounds for yourself.
Failing that, buy one from a retailer that offers refunds, and if you find them as crap as I do... then you can just get your money back
