Smile kenwood dnx 5220 camera

Ive just installed kenwood dnx 5220 in my 05 sti. Hooked it up with blutooth adaptor and ipod.
Im trying to install a kenwood ccd2000 camera, which is meant as a reversing camera but im mounting it to the front grill. The idea was to have a f1 view of the road as i was driving along. i have Hooked all the wiring up no problem, live to the camera, earth and then im left with a purple wire which is intended to be hooked up to the reversing bulb so when u select reverse gear the camera comes on.The instructions say link the wire to the 12v+ side of the reverse lamp so i have even tried just linking the wire to a stable 12v+Dc supply and yet still no picture displayed? as im not using the camera as a reversing camera where do i link this purple cable to? tried earthing it out and still get no picture when i select video on the source of the headunit. i wanted to have the picture on the camera displayed yet still be able to listen to my ipod as im driving.any help would be appreciated.
cheers

thats the same as mine you need to put the reverse camera on auto in the headunit setting as i think it defaults to off, auto means as soon as senses power to the purple wire it swiches to the camera display on the headunit otherwise it does nothing

either as fastfu says or wire in as an av source and send power from elsewhere (you could switch it manually if you wanted) and then save the reverse cam inputs for a reverse cam.

Where's the best place (on the rear) to fit a reversing camera on an 06 Hawkeye?
