Kenwood DNX5220BT - very bright at night!
Hi there
I have got this unit and I find that at night the brightness from the NAV display is really too bright to be comfortable.
The NAV display changes automatically from a white background to a black one, so it senses a change in light outside, but the main problem seems to be the big blue band at the top and right of the screen which displays all the NAV info. Does anyone know if it is possible to change the colour of this, which would help or whether it can be set to auto-dim the unit totally?

I hope that you can make more sense of the manual than i have done to date (its crap) but page 44 is the page you need to read. You need to set the dim control to "on" and then it works in conjunction with the turning on of your cars lights. HTH

Thanks for the info- and yes the manual is crap!
I have set the dimming via the Sync button and have managed to turn everything down when the lights go on....EXCEPT the blue border on the NAV display.
The CD display (for example) is perfect, but switch to the NAV display and you get a vivid blue border (that has dimmed with the lights slightly but not enough) and all the white writing which is unbelievably bright.
When driving at night, your eyes adapt to the dark and to have something as bright as this in your peripheral vision is not good. There needs to be a way of turning this NAV display down significantly!

it took me ages to sort mine out but its all in settings/monitor settings
you can set the day and night brightness and then put it in auto so it changes when you put your headlights on and there is also a setting to change the colours, i think there is about 12 to choose from.
most of my problems come from being male and thus not using manuals
