Subwoofer advice as I'm confused?
Hiya peeps.
To be honest in the ICE dep it doesn't take much to confuse me, I/we know nothing.. Short version is I like my music really quite loud, I do like a bit of bass but not like the McDonalds crew that you see cruising! I have a good headunit but rubbish front speakers, they have lasted a year & are about to be changed as they have blown, they are just basic drop in alpines with no tweeters which doesn't help.. I've been given one of these, Vibe Pulse Active Sub (Alloy 3 Series). I went into Halfords as I needed leeds and I wasn't sure if I needed an amp to work the sub, the chap said the amp is built in it but I needed the watts before he could help. I've mailed Vibe direct as nothing was written on it and they've come back and said this sub is 5 to 7 years old and it's a PT120 12” 350w RMS. So are my watts only 350 ? What I don't want to do is buy the leads and then find I could have gone a better route for a better sound as I know nothing about the sub.. I have already dynamated to front doors and rear parcel shelf last year.. Your advice would be greatly appreciated as always Julie

To wire in the sub you will need an amp wiring kit to connect it to your HU and battery.
If you like listening loud, you'll want to upgrade your front speakers and amp them. "Recommended" spec would a decent set of components and a 2x150watt amp, say under the passenger seat.

I find the active vibe subs pretty good for an all in one system (i think you'll be pretty impressed) all you need is an 8 guage wiring kit which will include power cable, rca's , earth cable and remote (everything you need to fit) as the amp only has a 25 amp fuse in it.

okie dokie, sounds like a good plan to me.. Its always good to hear form others who know what their talking about though. From the run down I was given, what watts is the sub I've already got, is it 350 ? Just so I know what kit to go for..

Every speaker will have a peak value and an RMS value.
RMS is the value you need to be looking at Julie if its 350 watts RMS then ideally you need to be matching a similar wattage amp, ignore the max peak wattage

What would I do without you guys? So when I go into Halfrauds to get all the leads which ones do I ask for as all they keep asking me is "what is the wattage of my sub/amp as they need to match it up" and that was the bit I wasn't sure of, well actually I didn't have a clue.. Hiya Scoobytc long time no hear.. You do have a fantastic set up in yours, I was looking at the price of focals last night after again reading and looking and what you've done, strueth not cheap are they for a pair of fronts ?

Your a star, thank you.. I'll get one tomoz if they have on in stock which is doubtful knowing them ? Quick question for you, when people say "you need to amp your front speakers to get the best out of them" is that with a separate amp especially for the fronts ?

Hiya
In response to your question that would be a yes
A seperate amplifier solely used just to power your fronts
or perhaps a 4 channel amp with 2 channels powering the fronts and 2 channels powering the rears although If rears are to be used then they should be a lot lower in power/volume than the fronts and barely detectable when sitting in the front.
Some people do like to add a little "rear fill" however the major concensus seems to be not to bother as you tend to lose your good staging in the front as the sound is pulled back towards the rear of the car.
I myself just use 2 front speakers and a sub in the boot and I am more than happy with it
Quality of Installation is the key really !
hope this helps
