Getting some ICE after a few years out of the game
HI, Im thinking of getting some speakers, subs etc. Last time i bought any was about 6yrs ago and i sold it all soon after. I had a JL Audio W7 10'' sub, JL Audio 500/1 amp and alpine head unit.
Are these still one of the best amps on the market? Is there anything better? Anything cheaper that is as good?
Does this sub have to be run off a monoblock amp or will an amp with a few channels (to run the speakers) be as good.
Can anyone recommend a quality, head unit, speakers, sub and amp set up please? Want some quality speakers too.
(think i want a 10'' sub where i get some rumble but a punchy bass too)
Cheers.
P.s. My old set up (on a fiesta!) used to dim the lights and make the revs drop on big B-lines, can this damage your car?

I'd stick to the same sort of thing... I have a JL 500/1 amp and 12W7 sub which is perfect. If anything I'd probably go for the 10W7 as the 12 is just too powerful.
Oh and Alpine still do some top quality headunits. I went for a pioneer in the end tho and only because I preferred their double din to Alpines.

If you want to run just the one amp you can get a half decent four channel amp and bridge channels 3 and 4 this will happily run your sub, just choose your amp fist so the now the impedance and rms it will produce and match it to a sub. an example would be Car Audio Direct - DLS Reference RA40 - Amplifier this amp would give you 2x 110w RMS at 4ohm for your front speakers and one channel giving you 220w RMS at 2ohm, something like this would match up nicely Car Audio Direct - DLS Reference RW12 - Subwoofer
It's just an example so you'll have to choose depending on your budget and music tastes
