Default Wiring Nightmare

Ever since i bought my scooby the wiring in it has been rubbish. It has had a set of cheap 13cm comps fitted front and rear but it had speaker wire going to the boot for only the drivers side front and rear but the other side was jus lying about.
so i re wired the wire to the boot for all 4 speakers and fitted my alpine i pod ready headunit which came out my old car so i know it works. I also fitted a random amp i had lying about to get it up and running. Wired in the amp, turned it on, amp works ok but turn the volume up and it will cut out then cut back in again and will do that untill u turn it down slightly.
ok so seeing as the amp was only a crappy one i put it down to that...so i managed to get hold of a alpine v12 amp tht i know worked, fitted it and it did the same thing, cutting out all the time. So i decided to change the speakers, bought some audiobahn 17cm comps for the front...but didnt really think about the mounting depth therefore the window catches on them slightly and with the spacer i made the door card wont fit on properly. anyways it seems to be worse now...cuts out at a lower volume and generally really pissing me off....if i put on the ipod the level it cuts out gets even worse....i dont understand wot it cud be....anyone experienced anything like this??

I would say this is a power issue.

Is your power connection to the battery ok?

Do you have an inline fuse? Are the connections ok on that ?

You're not getting enough current on demand through your power cabling.

What wire are you using to power the amp? You'll need a proper length of cable for +ve to your battery, with a fuse no more than a few inches away from the battery, and the same gauge wire to earth. I'd use 8 gauge minimum.

To prevent getting a flat battery, also make sure you wire up the switched power lead to between the amp and the head unit so the amp turns off when your head unit does.

Good luck.

i think its the 0 gauge wire i have..the real thick bastid...same size for the earth also. the remote wire is to the headunit so it all turns off ok. im confused. do u think it could be some sort of interference issue??

So, you have replaced everything in the car and still having the same problem?

from what I have read, you have changed all wiring from speakers to the amp, speakers, amp, headunit.

Does the amp go into protection when it happens?

Try disconnecting the speakers and rca's and running a corner at a time, this should show up which corner you have a problem with, then you can try the same corner on a different channel of the amp and see if it still does it

The speakers might be wired wrong and given the amp the wrong Ohm that of wich it is stable at.

0 gauge wire is really thick and will not fit a standard amp they normally run into a dizzy block then either 4 or 8 gauge from that.

I would start from the begining, check your + and - are ok and double check rca's, then I would run new speaker wires to your comps/speakers

Could be the line input gain on the amp is set too high?
