I received my renewal insurance quote this morning
from "WHATCAR Insurance" (aka Royal/Sun Alliance). Following
positive comments here on Scoobynet, I rang Frizell's - (aka Liverpool Victoria) for a quote.
and the winner is :-
Royal/Sun Alliance £453 excess £200 (comprehensive)
Liverpool Victoria £480 excess £250 (comprehensive)

car -- impreza turbo 5 door my2000 no mods (and it's an import!)
me -- 52 (old git ) cheap postcode, 4 years ncd, only driver, one sp30.
