Plan to go from 15" to 17", currently with Direct Line, will this affect my premium?

Dont know about Direct Line, but have heard that some ins. companies increase premiums for this. Your best bet would be to phone and ask.

Direct Line (aka Priviledge) increased my premium by 23% when I told em about changing from 15" to 16" wheels (didn't care that they weren't pricey OTT OZ racing).

I have got a P1, had it since new. Recently went from the 17s to the 18s (Prodrives same wheel design). On renewal I informed them of the change and paid over £300 for the priviledge with Admiral. As the premium was already £2500 I was a little gutted to say the least!!

yeah direct line aka privilege view new wheels as extra value so mine went up by about £200 with 6 months still left on policy when 15" standard went to 17" boyos but the bonus of that is all the other "non-performance" mods i've done since even strut brace included in this fall within this value increase so no further increase so wot they take with 1 hand they give back with the other! Well almost

DL, yes they'll more than likely charge you for it, it's a mod.

A mod is a mod in their eyes, I even tried to put across the argument that if the wheels were of the same value then they couldn't charge me more, but they wouldn't have it.

They work on a bracket basis, so all things of value upto £1000 adds a premium, then they have a £1000 - £2000 bracket, or something like that. If your wheels keep you in your current bracket they wont add to the premium, if they push you into the next bracket then they will sting you for it.

If ever I had to make a claim for a write off though, I'd want cash for both sets of wheels because effectively that's what you paying for STD set plus the mod.

I spoke to direct line about this (I don't have a policy, I was just getting quotes) and they agreed that they would not charge more for different wheels under the agreement that if they were stolen they are not covered by the insurance...you would have the old wheels to put on though.

And the answer is £52.50 for the next 8 months! Excess also increased to £575!!

Thinking of cancelling and looking for a new insurer.

Have changed insurer to LV from DL, premium down from £708 to £550, much better excesses, I can also mod for no extra premium!
