Talking

I am 25 years old and I have got 3 fairly recent points but full no claims. Car is P1 with Brakes and Exhaust mods.

Tesco insured me last year for £2,200, and wanted £1,800 to renew.

Phoned Bell direct who offered me £1,300 which I thought was a real bargain.

Then phoned GREENLIGHT who quoted me £930 fully comp.

To say I ripped their arm off is an understatement

This means I am extremely chuffed as the car has been up for sale for the last couple of months as I did not think I coulod justify the cost of re-insuring it for another year.

So heres to more mods!!!

Cheers

Si

Have you owned performance cars before? I ask as I tried for a quote a while back and they wouldnt even quote me as it was my first fast car. Also how old are you?

Simon.

I got a reasonable price from greenlight. But make sure you read all the terms and conditions! i.e only insured from 10pm-6am if garaged at the policy holders address. So if its parked on your drive and gets stolen between this time! "UNLUCKY" But go two doors down the road to your m8s house its insurerd!!! Crazy or what? Plus you have to wait a good few months for your policy to come through. just hope you dont get a producer of the old bill while your waiting!

Ginger - I thought that sort of term wasn't unusual. If you are paying less money for garaging the car at home because it is a lower risk, the insurance company would reasonably expect you to garage the car at home. Not that I believe they're all fair and reasonable people, but they kind of have a point there.

As for docs - when I renewed with Greenlight this year, I got them through within 36 hours of phoning them. Better still, I asked about mods and they said "if you fit full exhaust and chip to 260-270bhp, well that would be less than 50 quid." Can't complain there

It's a tricky problem. I have extra security devices fitted to my car, but I don't declare them because I don't want to have to prove to an insurance company that they were in operation when my car was stolen. The potential discount for having them doesn't outweigh the potential for hassle IMHO. I guess that having or not having a garage is the same.

Only asked about grey imports as I have a grey import. The guy's reason was they offcially cant get the parts of Subaru UK to fix the cars so they wont insure them. If you have a UK spec euro import which your dealer is happy to fix and registered with Suabru UK then you should be okay. Worth mentioning it a Euro import when you ring though, just in case .

Chrome - mine is a euro import. All they wanted was a copy of the certificate of conformity to prove it was UK spec, then there is no difference in their view between that and a UK car. You probably will have to prove the Cat 1 alarm though, as that isn't covered in the euro conformity certificate.

I've never had a problem with them. Fair enough, the raise the premium each year until you phone them and say "but I can get it cheaper here", whereby it will drop again. But so do many companies. Otherwise, they've always been fine.
