Spoke to LV yesterday for a quote. I'm 29, have an SP30 and 1 claim against me. Car is MY93 WRX, @12k miles a year. Got the quick quote from the website which said between £750-£980. Anyway, called them up gave all my details and was then told, "Sorry we aren't allowed to quote you on this specification of car". So I politely enquired as to why and was told they would confirm with the underwriters. About an hour later I got the return call giving the same reason. I then was asked where I had got there details from. So I mentioned it was "from the internet". Their response was quite puzzling. "Oh, was it on that Scooby forum thingy. We are monitoring that at present because of some of the information being passed around". Now call me suspicious, but I would like to know what that comment was all about. Got sorted elsewhere anyway for £942 with £500 XS.
Should we be worried about the things we post on this bbs?

Thumbs down

Hi Mark,

I had a similar experience to you. The web site quoted me £662-805. When I rang up, the premium magically became £953. I complained big style about this sudden 20% jump from what the website had quoted. I was then requoted with a £500 excess but this still came in at £782.

I realise that people have got good deals from this lot else they wouldn't post it but i felt hard done by. Misadvertising, msiled, whatever you wanna call it, I'm not very happy with them.

Dave

P.S. I have a standard MY98 with alarm, immobilizer and tracker. I'm 31 with 12 years driving, 8 years no claims and no accidents etc ever.

They told me on the phone that anything with a 2 litre engine was too big and powerful for me as I'm only 29 (11 years no claims, no accidents/convictions etc) I guess that might be why they didn't quote you - I think they believe life begins at 30.

Well LV undercut everyone by 300 quid for me (was with direct line and tesco's wanted 450 excess PLUS another 130 odd quid on tope of what direct line quoted ) and having tried the greenlight site for a standard subaru impreza turbo (mine is modified BTW) they want TWICE as much as LV
You win some and you loose some i suppose

Axa are good for completely unmodified scoobs , as soon as modifications are involved (performance enhancing or not ) they didn't want to know. That was of Feb of this year , don't know if this still applies!!!

I was quoted £750-£900 on line by LV and then on the phone it raised to £1800.Now thats some increase but there response was the web is a guide only.
I think LV have not researched the Subaru car and its possible modifications and have just covered all the current clients regardless. Now somebody has taken the time to do research they are now realising there error shall we say and are now increasing the premiums to cover the costs against any possible claims.
I've never known a company insure you without any care to the modifications you have performed to the car and as we all know all Subaru mods dont come cheap and we shall see what problems people have when they come to make a claim with a highly modified car.
Me thinks LV will pass a small duck egg when they get the repair bill. Standard car £19,000 / Modified car £24,000
Either that or some underwriter will have his **** kicked.

You HAVE to declare accidents and break ins even if you didn't claim otherwise it's fraud.

Please don't make libellous statements
