Question

Hi

Anyone tried elephant.co.uk?
They're giving me a dirt cheap quote (for London) but anyone got any horror stories?

Cheers

I had no problems when I was insured with them last year on an EVO...good quote.
Contact by email was pretty good.
NCB came through at the end of the contract.

No problems from me.

Wink

Ive just done their on line quote, i put as a standard uk MY00 turbo (mine is modified BTW) with 250 excess, fully comp protected with 0 accidents/convictions and its over DOUBLE what i pay they quoted 2079 quid! i only pay 1032 quid now!
I'd shop around if i were you, bit of a rip off me thinks
(also depends on age but im 33 so cheaper insurance for me normally )

Woah £2079! harsh....

I hear what you're saying, I've shopped around and this looks like the best quote...

As to the 70p per minute claim line, god forbid I ever need to claim but hey, thats what the work phones for!

Cheers for your input everyone...

Got a good quote from them, but spoke to Greenlight who matched it.

One thing to watch is their extra charge for modifications. I tried out getting quotes for modded cars while I was checking with them. They seem quite good to a point - eg <10% hike for up to 10% more power. Go for the 10-25% power hike, and the premium doubles.

Just insured with elephant, Cheapest I found by far, but as the others say beware the mods. It does hike the premium up. (previously with Churchill)

For everything the same :

Tesco £609
Norwich Union £624
All others £900-£950
Elephant £1098

Also because of how S**t Elephant are, my wife ended up with a CCJ, because despite our constant calling and sending on of information they did sweet FA until the court had balmed my wife for everything being as no one turned up to represent. Took nearly 9 months to sort it out and get the CCJ clear - I will never use elephant again as a result.

That's blamed my wife rather than covered her in lotion. . . .

And fortunately it wasn't a claim involving my Scooby

Been insured with them for a while now, ws quite reasonable on my Skoda, till I got a Speeding conviction. Then it went astonomical.

Changed To a Corsa (1.6 Sport & about twice the power of the Skoda) and sudennly they give the cheapest quote.

There just seems to be certain cars or combinations of car and driver that they like & give better quotes for. I know the previous owner of the Corsa was insured with them & got good deals until he traded in for a Scoob (think they reacted badly to some of the mods)

Had to claim once, had no hassels, you can fill out a form online if you donm't want to use the phone line (think they might have changed the premium rate lines)

Downside... two years in a row they've had problems taking my payment from my card. First time they sorted it out fairly quickly, second time I had a letter saying "pay up or we remove your cover & then you might be done for being on the road without insureance". Didn't realise they were experienceing major backlogs on the e-mail system & therefore my e-mails to ask them to contact me as I didn't want to pay a premium rate line weren't getting through.

I think the problems they had with e-mail was the reason they started doing a national rate help line instead of the 60p a minute one.

Couple points on the ten month policy comment above,

1) I'm pretty sure they do a 12 month policy as well, and the work out about the same if you compare like for like.

2) it means that you get a years no-claims in 10 months instead of 12, therefore getting the larger discounts quicker as well. (Handy for me as I've had a habit of losing NCD over the last couple of years.

If you multiply the Elephant quote by 1.2 you'll get a rough idea of the 12 month quote then you can go away and compare like to like with all the 12 month policys.
