What a difference a call makes

Phone call from my insurance brokers last week as I was on the way back home from TSL (again). "We now have your renewal quote for your STi, Sir, and it will be......£1989-70!!". I had to stop the car straight off, could not believe my ears. That's going from £780 for my previous wagon to near £2 grand for the STi.!! WHY?
First thing this morning, having perused this forum last night, I started ringing around. Within 2 calls my mind was made up:
- The AA would do me for £860, provided I had tracker, cat 1 alarm, nose pierced, etc etc....
- Liverpoool Victoria would do me for £538, full protected NCD, etc etc. I paid the premium in full on the spot!
Total saving on my renewal (via LV) = £1452, nearly the full cost of my (soon to arrive) Motec chip upgrade! I ask you what is the insurance world coming to?
Same risk profile, same car, same modifications declared, same no blame incident declared, and we have a difference of nearly £1500. Now I know that customer choice drives market economics but this experience just does NOT make sense at all.
My grateful thanks to LV for taking a very responsible attitude to car insurance and not taking the route of all the rest and ripping us off.
