Exclamation

Reckon I can get it for under £1200?

I'm 18, had licence a year (exactly) with no accidents, claims or points. Have been named driver on two seperate polocies - Imp 2.0GL for 18mths (inc L plate time) and Imp 1.6GL for the year since passing. I've done passplus and am in the middle of doing IAMs lessons heading for the advanced test.

I'm a student but the car will live at home most of the time (thus making high premiums even more unbareable! ) I'll probably need to use it to get to a part time job in the summer, but dunno yet. Probably not more than 4000 miles a year.

Car is kept in a carport on a private drive in an LL (Northeast Wales) postcode, my home address. Has Clifford C600 Cat1 alarm with Blackjax antihijack, Stoplock Pro Cat3, and I never park anywhere daft! It's a standard Impreza 1.6GL AWD 5 door.

Best quote I've had so far is Liv Victoria's quick quote saying a minimum of £1650, will phone them when I can but it's expensive being at uni without a landline! All other online quotes have been £2500+.

Who are the company that discount specifically for Clifford alarmed cars, lost the pamflet Do the give a decent discount for an 18yr old. Also will companies that discount for IAMs members include people who haven't actually taken their test yet?!
Who else should I try, preferably including companies who are there on a Sunday so I can call before I go back to uni tomorrow!

Cheers,
Ben

Dont forget though, this guy isnt looking at a turbo. he is only asking to be insured under a 1.6 gl! Shouldnt be a problem even with no NCB

If you want to build up a no claims bonus then fair enough but it would probably be best to be a named driver on a parents policy.

I was (still am) 18 and wanted insurance on my BMW 1.8 and couldn't get quotes of less than £2500 - £3000 due to only passing 4 months previous. Basically i persuaded my mum to put me down as a named driver and managed to get a fully comp policy for £900 protected no claims gold policy etc.

If you pay the main policy holder the differnce which for me was £400 then you are insured for a year.

I thought about pass plus etc but my driving instructor told me i'd only save about 10-15% on a typical policy which virtually cancels out when you reach 20 anyway.

adrian flux is seriously your best bet!

Andrew, when you are insured under your parents name - you dont build up any No claims! You are a named driver so when you go to insure your next vehicle, they will ask for your NCB and proff. You send off your document and it will say you are a named driver.

Thats what happened to my first year. I was a named driver under my parents and it didnt count as a NCB!

Thumbs down

Grrrrr. Best I can get is £1950 from Liv Victoria. I'll try a few other companies when I'm home again this weekend, but I don't think I'll do any better than that.
Will probably have to go down the named driver route as suggested by Andrew. At least it is legitimate with the car being at home and me not. Will look at it again in the Spring when I'm 19 .

Cheers.

Edit to say Tesco quoted £2500 or so. Will try Greenlight and Adrian Flux on Friday.
