No. When i was 20 they wouldnt touch me and said i have to wait till 21. Turned 21 with 3 years no claims and the only person who will insure me at a decent price is tesco.
On a Uk model, the only person who would quote me was adrian flux so try them

Its not the insurance that you should be worried about initially, its the running costs!
You cannot skimp on these (ie no cheap tyres unless you want to end up in hedges/walls/hospital etc) along with 2 servces per year (dealer or speciallist if you want to sell the car on after as no one will touch an unserviced/unloved scoob).
Services should cost around 5-600 per year for both (normally one big one) and fuel will need to be super unleaded (especially for Jap imports which can only run SUL MINIMUM) and uk cars can run 95 ron fuel but run better on sul/optimax.
Do alot of homework before you buy, these cars are VERY expensive to run compared to your nova.

interesting comments folks the only think scaring me is the running costs as you say, on my 2.0 16v nova, even though its a rocket the engine is still esentially boring old vauxhall thus cheap when bits go. how much on average do you guys spend per year on running costs, services, tyres etc (not including mods)

Ben16v, running costs are very expensive! It depends where you go. Your nova for instance, when a clutch goes it is quite cheap. When a clutch goes on a subaru, a dealer will change the flywheel and clutch and it will come to £1200!!!!
Before anyone jumps in and says no i got it for this price etc, you can get this done cheaper but this is what IM have told dealers to charge!!!!
But if you work in the bodyshop, you should know a few mechanics that can always help you out

My last lot of tyres (215/40/17) cost me 240 for 2 and 140 for 2 (got the last 2 off a mate with about 10 miles of wear on them )
Last service would have been around 90 quid (but took me own oil so was 54 quid )
My next service will be around 5-600 quid though and the previous service to my "cheap one" was around the 340 mark.
The last long drive i had cost me around 65 quids worth of optimax (averaged 25mpg) for 455 miles, i also am in need of new discs/pads (upgraded ones as ive had the standard ones replaced which would be cheaper than the 700 quid i need for the new ones).
Im not adding anything like the roadtax, my insurance or yearly fuel bills (estimate an average of 22mpg over 12k miles and fuel at an average of 78ppl and it should give you a rough estimate ) nor am i adding small items like tracking, wiper blades etc as these are normal wear and tear things that need doing every so often anyway.

mate, I really wanted a scooby so I brought myself one if you save a little money every month then the big bills aren't gonna hurt so much, like i know about July next year my car is due its 45k service my local scooby garage want £540, so I'm saving £50 a month which should cover it.
I'm not gonna keep my Scooby forever, maybe a few years, but I thought sod it only young once! I
My advice is if you want one go and buy one you wont regret it.
Cheers

Davey P, does insurance really drop 'loads' when you turn 21?
I always thought that was rubbish the insurance companies spouted off.

I didn't notice my insurance drop at 21....
They tell you 21, then they tell you 25, then they tell you 30, then they probably say you're too old!!!
As for running costs, I have spent about £500 this year in servicing. (Most of that is parts, as I do most of the work myself, as the car is 6 years old now) I have replaced the dampers, fitted 4 pot brakes & replaced the clutch + loads of oil changes... (All for 10k miles in 9 months)
It is the most expensive car to run that I've owned, and the biggest drain on my money (even though I've bought a house)!!
So be careful, and budget wisely...

They are quite expensive to run even if they are reasonably new.
I've got a MY01 WRX and the services for the first 30K are nothing.
However everyday running costs are high, even if your very easy on the throttle you will still only get 22 - 24 mpg around town, maxmium 250 miles to a tank all round driving and on SUL or optimax gets expensive (incidentally, the official Subaru MPG figures are b@ll@x).
Also, tyres and brakes, even a sunday driver would go through a set of tyres at 15,000 miles and at 4 to 500 quid a set for ones that will keep you on the road, it starts adding up.
I am 31 now, and I know what I was like at 20 so although I've mellowed a hell of alot, its still very difficult not to get involved in a scrap with a tarted up Nova (no offense).
So with insurance (at your age), tryes, petrol, services, parts, road tax on around 10000 miles a year your going to be looking at easily around 4,000 a year running costs.
But if your going to be scrapping with your mates and showing off all the time then you can start adding to that - alot.
But don't be put off, I wish I had the ***** to get one when I was 20.

I am 22 years old with five years no claims, live in a low crime rated area. Tesco were the only ones to give me a sensible quote on a MY99 UK turbo. £1045 with protected no claims.
This was a lot lower than last year, they wanted over £2500!!!!
If you want one go for it, I am loving it and can't help but smile when i drive it!

I too noticed a significant drop in my insurance premium when i turned 21.
Insurance on my Cavalier Turbo was in the £1800 region TPFT when i was 20. When i turned 21 it came down to £1250 FC.
So then i thought, "What else could i insure...."..... 2 months later and i'm driving a MY98 UK Turbo, insured for £1500 FC through Tescos.
I live in the sitcks btw, 3 years NCB and i've had a ban....

I was running a golf mk1 GTi and a 97 BMW 316ise. On start of my new job i thought a nice new car as after rent and liiving costs i was clearing £400. So sold both my cars and bought a 97 UK turbo 2000. Now im saving nothing while only running one car!
Dont fall into the trap unless ur really earning money! Petrol is the killer!
20years old, 1yr nc, London paying £1850 TPFT with Fred Roberts&Partners

Been quoted on everything from standard UK Turbos to P1s and Imported Type-Rs.
They all come out around the same price +/-£75 most expensive being the imported Type-R (even though it was cheaper and older than the P1).
Sadly they won't accept my foreign NCD as I've been in Spain for 4 years... So it's either pay for the zero NCD (a scary thought being 24 and having to scrap 4 years NCD) or have a word with a parent for me... (and hope I don't have to leave the car at their house! )
Tesco seem the best so far....

i have a 95WRX import and the insurance was £2200 with directline.
i phoned round loads of places who all either said no to imports or no to under 25s.
Im 24, 2 yrs noclaims, 2 accidents, (1st own fault ,2nd 50:50)
hopefully it will come down next year when im 25 3yrs noclaims and 1 cheap 50:50 accident in the last 5 years.
needed cat1 and tracker monitor.
running costs are somthing i try to ignore, im now very lightfooted and can get 300 miles to a tank on the motorway (@60mph which is very hard to do), 225 round town, 150 racing everything that tries to get past.
luckily nost of my milage is business milage and i claim it back @35p/mile, but ive stopped doing long private journeys.
the thing i dread most is something just going wrongout of the blue, as i used to drive novas and they were always cheap to fix.
