I'll try and explain the Tracker sheet that I got from Directline, I should have kept it because every other person I've spoken to at Directline denied it's existence.

Here goes:

Does the car have a tracker fitted?
Yes
Is the car worth over £50000
Yes - go to table c
No - go to table d

No
Is the car worth over £50000
Yes - go to table a
No - go to table b

Table A had only the very expensive Trackers (list of about 5)
Table B had only Trackers over £400 Monitor, Horizon etc (list of about 10)
Table C had most Trackers, very similar to Table B (list of about 10)
Table D had almost every Tracker I've ever heard of, including Tracker Retrieve. (list of 20-30)

As you can see, it's worth saying you've got a Retreive fitted even if you haven't, and getting one fitted before the insurance starts.

Direct Line did not mention Retrieve when first enquired but have confirmed that it is acceptable to our scooby anyway.

Direct Line/Privilege/Tesco etc..

Will only take on Scoobies with minimum Tracker Monitor fitted. Otherwise they will either not cover it or won't give theft cover.

The basic Tracker Retrieve is a no no..

Tracker Monitor goes for around £440 plus the annual/monthly subsciption fee.

They introdiced this around Nov 2001 and so any policies taken out before then will not require this. If you have taken one out since then they should be asking for a tracker system.

Check your small print.

Hope this helps.

Red face

Tracker Retrieve WAS acceptable in March last year with DL as I had to send the installation cert that came with the car. They sent it back with a covering letter saying I was now officially covered for theft. Are you saying their policy has changed in twelve months and I need to bin Retrieve and have Monitor installed ?

Yep. They might make an exception cause you are already with them but a mate got a tracker retrieve in July and insured with Tesco. But when he goes to renew the policy, he will need to bin it for a monitor or go to another insurance. This is what Tesco told me
