Question

Anybody know of any companies that will insure me for a weekend. The shortest policy I've been offered is 3months, but I only need to drive my car back from a friends.

Any ideas please

Thanks
Jay

Get a friend with a "driving other cars" extension to drive it for you. The cover will be Third Party Only, but it will be legal.

Contrary to popular belief, your car does not have to be insured for this extension to be valid on a friends insurance.

The car should be taxed as it is an offence to drive a car without tax, although the lack of tax would NOT invalidate the car insurance.

Lack of an MOT very rarely invalidates insurance although it can cause complications, but clearly it would be irresponsible for the car to be driven if it is in an unroadworthy state.

If the car does have problems then if the journey is fairly local, perhaps you should just get a quote from a garage to have it transported?

Cheers
Richard

Looking at about 200miles so flatbed is not an option really & don't really have anyone I'd trust to drive it back TBH. My current insurance company wouldn't cover it in addition to my policy as it's too powerful (300ZX TT). Shortest policy I've found is 3months at £250 but seems a bit excessive for a weekend.

Cheers

Although 250UKP will probably be cheaper than using a flatbed even with petrol costs included.

well according to Yikes, (if you've already got insurance) have you got TPO cover on other cars with your current insurer?, you could drive it back, I'd check this out though because I'm not sure it's right.

I'd like to know if it's true, allways thought the car to be driven third party had to be insured?, how are you so sure yikes?.

Or as LMWRX said £250 will prob be comparable to hiring a flatbed recovery truck.

hi mate. the D.O.C extenion will cover you if the car your using is owned and registered in someone elses name, only TPO cover and as soon as you get out the car there is no cover. If the car isnt MOTd the underwriter can void any claim but unlikley if it was MOT worthy.Computer quote used to offer 1 month policies not sure if they still do ,hope this helps

Thumbs up

The car is registered in my name & my current runabout (mk3 fiesta 1.1 muwahaha) is only TPFT so not covered to drive my Z.
I'm itching to get back in another fast car so it's getting tempting to insure it for the 3 months until I sell it. Gonna hunt round for a 1 month policy this week, that would satisfy my speed addiction till I get my GT40

Rang em up today to pay for policy, took my card details. 15 mins later I get a call back asking for my DOB, tell the lady it's 16/2/79 'oh sorry the person you spoke to based your quote on 16/2/39, making you 64 instead of 24 - I'll call you back if it makes a difference to your premium' FFS of course it's gonna make a difference. Quote ended up being huge so I'm back on the hunt

you could get a annual policy on monthly payments and just cancel after you dont need it. the problem with this is that if you have a claim you wll have to pay thefull yrs worth!
