I've been looking into changing my RB for a spanking new 03 STI
having looked at the car and thought ...... this is the one for me I go and get an insurance quote

I'm 25 with 7 years no claims and they still want.....£1115.10ffs

so do all you guy's running STI's pay this ? don't get me wrong I pay £650 for the RB5 but I refuse to pay over a grand for insurance.

Craig. (please leave in general, insurance is too quiet)

I'm 33 and I paid 950 quid before PPP so I think that's about right, verging on the good deal.

Remember the STI is group 20 and is the same class as a 911(if I recall). The RB5 was a group 17-19 if I recall

Have you tried Elephant.co.uk? The quotes we were getting for the STi8 were in the region of £2K!!!! Elephant got this down to below a grand

Don't know what you're complaining about! I'm 28 10 years NCB and pay just under £1k for my MY01 WRX, although I do have 11 points for an SP30 and an SP50. STi should be about what you are saying. I found Tesco to be the cheapest by a long way, have you tried them yet?

Cheapest by far I've had on my 02 STi parked on the street in London with clean history and 5 years NCD is £1145. Next best from everyone else was £2k upwards....

Trouble is with saying that Neil, group 20 is quite exponential. They just bung everything in it which is too fast/expensive to be in the other groups.

I wish my insurance was that cheap

Never thought I'd see a quote like that for a scooter parked on a London Street never mind an STi.
That is a fantastic quote.

Yes, don't they have sub catagories in there like 20a,b,c,d

I *think* a standard STI is in 20a. PPP'd car is 20c

Wheres Rum when you need him..

I went to look at a standard 03MY WRX Sportwagon at a dealers, to trade in my 99MY 5Dr - very nearly bought it on the spot, but they told me the insurance group from my 99my had gone up from 17 to 19!

So I told them I had to check out the insurance first, I currently pay £560 for my 99MY, a new 03MY was £1,100

Kinda shoots my new car theory in the head - NO WAY i'm paying that!

Pay's to be old.

40, full no claims, no points ( yet !! ).
Through a broker, £697 fully comp. I used Tesco as a stick to beat him with. Tesco was the cheapest quote by an easy £100. I went, Tesco quote in hand, to my broker who I have used for 3 previous Jap rockets, and he matched it. It pays to shop, and haggle, and never be scared to ask.

Went to see the STi8 last week and very impressed with the car - Currently paying £345 for my 02/02 Audi 3.0 Quattro Sport (ESURE). Their website wont quote for STi8 (as it's group 20) so I'm going to call them. Not sure if I want to pay an additional £700 a year .

If you can afford to purchase an STI8 and live with the running costs a grand for insurance. I was paying a grand for my RB5 WR. The cheapist I've had on an FQ300 so far is £1450.

it's not that I can't afford the £1k insurance, it's just that I don't want to pay it ! I've got severe hang ups about throwing money away. I'm sure you will agree that your giving someone £1k for nothing (with any luck). I can see that the car is worth more than my RB5 but the mods on my car will match the standard STI performance wise (ish ) [flame suit on]

so The £500 hike seems a little ott I'm still looking for quotes so If I get it down below £1k I'll buy the car.

I used www.egg.com

810 comp with fp ncd - 37, 1 claim, 6 points - helped I had their card which got me 10% discount

and they'll match it next year if nothing changes

tried Rum who couldn't match it

The post with the new 03 wagon being group 19 is worrying.

Does that mean the old shape car is going up 2 insurance groups ?

Just (yesterday) renewed my MY02 Sti with PPP. I'm insured with Greenlight (highway), 28, full noclaims and a sp30 in may 99. Renewal fee £1147. I also got a quote for a new wrx and an Audi S3/S4. They wanted £650 for the Audi's and £1100 for the WRX.

Subaru Insurance have some good deals for the ST1 8, quoted £765 but you have to be at least 28 years of age.
