Question

Just been trying to get my insurance sorted for an Sti8 with PPP

I am 36 years old
Never had a claim
Live in a low risk postcode
Fully alarmed
Tracker
Locked drivway/garage

The problem I seem to have is alot of people recommending insurance companies to try that have supposedly giveb very cheap quotes for the same vehicle. So armed with the numbers I have rang around most of them.

For example somebody said phone Bell direct £500 for an Sti 8, so I did, didn't mention PPP for the start but described the exact details of the car WRX Sti Type UK, they cam back with a figure of £960 + extra for protected bonus

Someone else said try so and so in Birmingham. I have just paid £375 for a WRX import. £1395 for Sti 8

The only company that seems to be consistant in quoting isurance is L&V - £809 inc PPP and any mods.

What I have said before and what I am questioning again is either

insurance companies quote what they like or us the customers aren't declaring the car correctly.

I had this with my current company, I changed a UK300PPP to the Sti8 and they wanted to give me £400 back !. They read the car as an Impreza AWD not an Sti, although the policy only stated the reg and not the car until I asked about this?

I have said it before on here and I will say it again. Are people really declaring the model correctly when they ring companies for quotes, as I have found only two companies (other than who I am with) that quote with any sort of consistency and who actually understand the car, L&V and Subaru Insured.

Comment please

I got elephant.co.uk quoting me for £1200 WRX STi 2003, I was about to buy until I noticed WRX AWL or something in the quote, no mention of Sti. So I rang up to clarify - they said thier best quote was now £4300. Hmmm - some of you I'm sure are wrongly insured.

Hoth,

Yes I am convinced of that to. Unless its stated exactly on the policy what the car is then as far as I am concerned that insurance could well be void in the event of a claim.

I cannot believe some of the so called low quotes for these cars and have rang many of the insurance companies mentioned on here.

I don't add up and I don't believe what I have read on here over the last few months

Another thing that I don't understand is why different companies quote vastly diffent sums for the same underwriter.
E.g. Norwich Union, the range is between £2400 and £8900 (!!!)
Pure profit methinks..

Get the Sti8 back today with PPP. Insurance cover sorted, butstill confused by these seemingly cheap insurance quotes that people get.

I think people aren't telling the full story

Jesus

Mine was £1062. Tesco wanted traker fitted and would then have charged me £885 (without PPP). Didn't think it was worth fitting it as I knew I wouldn't be keeping the car.

I am 36 and live in a low risk postcode. Are you sure they understood you when you said UK300 PPP

As I said at the beginning of the thread I have never ever had a quote under £809 for any of my scoobs and I have had 4 + I have phoned dozens of companies

I am sure that Tesco's did not ask me any details for the car. I just gave them the reg and they looked it up. They did tell me that they were one of the ten worst cars to insure and demanded a tracker.

This is what happened to me when I first insured my Legacy. Only problem was that the insurance database takes its info from the DVLA database and, if the details of your car are wrong there, the insurance people could be quoting you on the wrong model.

I was quoted £160 fully comp, btw, because my car was described by the DVLA as a Legacy 2.0 DL (about 95bhp IIRC) not the Legacy 2.0 RS-B twin-turbo (rated at 276bhp) that I had. If I had just taken their quote, I suppose I would have thought I was insured, but I bet I wouldn't have been had I accepted that quote and subsequently claimed

Exclamation

I'm insured through A-plan, policy is with AXA.

The car is a completely standard STi7 (moving to 8 PPP on Sept 1st ).

I'm 31, Full NCB protected, 3 pts for SP50 in Nov 2000, No claims or accidents in last 5 years, Car is kept on driveway, has alarm, tracker. My average mileage is 8000 per year.

I pay £615.

However the low cost can be attributed to the fact that my wife is also a named driver, similar driving history to me except for the points. I also have access to my wife's Scenic.

Aplan quoted an extra £50 per annum for PPP. L&V quoted me circa £690 if I remember correctly.

Steve, maybe your postcode isnt as good as you think??

Edited to say - I'm a computer programmer, your job makes a difference too.

Quite strange this, when I called L/Vic for a quote on imported Scoob(auto) they said they wouldn't insure me.

29 restricted auto (1997)
nil points / convictions, haven't questioned it lately but seems weird when people on here are younger than me and get insured ??

(saying that I can't fault L/Victoria, they always give me the cheapest quotes, and have done for approx 6 yrs now.)

Their website says "Your vehicle has been manufactured for the UK market, e.g. it is not a Japanese import". Could be the reason?
