I'm running a saab turbo as a second car, only got 1 years NCB to use on it (5 on the scoob)

Elephant.co.uk quoted £515 fully comp on it

Are there any other ways to get cost down i.e. special underwriting etc.

tesco's/directline/esure etc all suck cost wise.

Other than shopping around there aren't too many things you can do as age, occupation, driving experience, accidents, claims, convictions, where you live, and your occupation all influence the cost.

The obvious ideas are restricted mileage, and increasing your excess. If nobody else will drive the car, restrict the insurance to yourself. If you've done these already, shopping around is the answer.

How old is the car? If it's old enough, a classic car policy may be a possibility.

limited mileage is probably the way to go or buy an old classic! I use footman james for my MK2 Cortina 1600E, and for unlimited mileage (unusual), legal cover and breakdown, fully comp. costs all of £113 woohoo!!!

Car is 1999 so be a while before it becomes a classic.

I maxed out the excesses already, myself only driving and also limiting mileage to 6k.. ah well..

Some companies allow you to use the same NCB on a second car policy.
Companies I know do this include norwich union and swinton, but you have to ring up (i.e. won't work over the internet).
