![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
A a friend of mine visted a car for sale today which was involved
in a minor accident 2 months ago and was told by the owner it was
not registered by the insurance, ie not a category A,B,C,D.
BUT when he did the HPi check he was informed by them it was involved
in a recent accident and would be given a category within the coming
weeks/months by the DVLA.
The owner of the car for sale was not to blame for the accident and the
repair work was paid for by the other drivers insurance.
Can anybody shed any light on how insurance registered damage works,
Why/Who puts a car that has suffered light damage on the HPi register?
I guess it would be the insurer?
And surely if its on the register/HPi then the car is worth less to sell ?
Thus making the current owner a finacial loser and having a car that
is less likely and harder to sell in the future due to no fault of his own !!!
The car is 16k and the amount to repair was 3k if this helps.
Cheers WW

Yep, if a car is on the HPI register it makes it harder to sell / worth less.
More through the stigma than actually anything wrong with the car. But everyone I know of who has had a big enough repair to a car says they never drive the same afterwards.
Could this be a reason why the car is for sale 2 months after the accident not counting how long it was in for repair.
Walk away and find another car.

The other parties insurance company would register the fact there was a claim made on this car..and that is all good and proper as future buyers are entitled to know.
Sadly it will devalue the car, and it is almost impossible to be compensated for that![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

So if someone hits your car you have to pay the price ?? In that i mean
you get left with the repaired car thats worth less and no one wants
to buy !
Thats sounds very unfair to me as it wasnt your fault![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Dosenoffer! "£3,000 sounds more like a medium damage crash. I had a minor one the other month while the car was parked and that was £260 cash. Up to £1,000 would be minor"
If you have a car that say is valued at around 20-25k as an example and someone reverses into your bumper and cracks it and it needs a new one, a bumper alone can be £1,000 and upwards and that will be in primer and it also will need spraying and to be fitted! You can`t say that upto £1,000 is classed as minor as it depends on what the value of the car is and what repair is being done! And £3,000 of repairs could be anything cosmetic like a new bumper and the fog lights that they have in them can be £400 on an expensive car so would you class that as heavy damage! How much would a repair be to a 22B if someone reversed into that and and did some cosmetic damage to the front! Its all about the value of the car that is being repaired, on my Evo the front bumper costs £800 on its own from Mitsubishi without paint then you have the splitter which is seperate and fog lights if you have them!

Well id hate to have an accident in a 22B, especially if it was only the wing that was damaged (there 2500quid unpainted
).
Depends on where the accident was and what was replaced.
