I Called them for a quote on my STI 8 , 36yrs old full no claims ,no points ,no accidents, car on driveway, £1600.00....

I Nearly fell over..Direct line £995.00 ,Tesco £1150.00 , Liverpool Victoria £944.00
I rang round a few more and eventually settled with L&V with a slightly higher excess but got the policy to £810.00 with a few mods included. They also said PPP would not increase my premium when i get it done.

Also ,a friend around the corner from me with the same postcode , has a STI 8 with PPP. He is a few years younger, less no claims, insured with subaru for a lot less than they quoted me??

I certainly couldnt work that one out????

Just called Subaru Insured for a quote and get this.... They didn't want to know what additional security devices the car has (03 WRX), and a tracker would not make any difference, and that Insurance companies don't like trackers fitted to cars! I couldn't believe what I was hearing!

I'm over 35, have no points or convictions, have 6 years no claims bonus, do about 12k per year, to and from work (IT). I was involved in one minor road accident last year, where a kid ran into the side of my car whilst I was queuing at a round about. Neither party made a claim and the Police (who I called) did not pursue anyone for responsibility.

Tesco quoted £665 - including protected no claims.
Directline quoted £751 - including protected on claims.

Subaru Insured quoted £1200 without protected on claims! Maybe the guy wanted to go to lunch or something

Tesco and Directline both know about the incident last year.

Anyone had the same experience? Or did I catch them on a bad day?

"Greenlight £900"

Insurance amazes me!

02 WRX PPP with Morettes - decent area (N Yorks), 44yrs old, no accidents, no points, full NCB, Wife and I only to drive - me a College Lecturer, her a Primary School teacher etc. Tesco wanted £674 at renewal and Greenlight quoted £1200!! Elephant nearly £1500!!! Do they just make up the quotes as they go along?

I went with LV - just over £500pa/£42.21pm

Cheers

I did mention this a while ago when I was first told, but I got no comments from Rum, other than asking me who told me, but that was the last I heard of it, and it forced me to go elsewhere

Sorry guys....I wish we could be the cheapest all the time....then I could retire ... whilst I try to obtain as many deals as I can, unfortunately as a broker I am restricted to the Broker Market Insurance companies and as such I can't (obviously) approach the likes of Direct Line, Privilege, LV etc etc...

With regard to postcodes and different rates etc...yup...insurance is bizarre...for STI's we have generally very competitive rates - however the underwriter requests that all the vehicles are garaged...now if you are able to garage the car the rate stands...if not, well we are restricted to the likes of Norwich Union etc...

With regard to security etc...well we know the car comes with a Sigma M30 Cat 1 Alarm/Immobiliser...the likes of NU give a small additional discount for Tracking...and alas none of the companies give any more discounts for devices such as Black Jacks, Barrier Lock, Wheel Locks etc etc...hence not a necessity to know at quotation stage.

With regard to Jap Import vehicles unfortunately we are no longer taking these on as new business (PLEASE NOTE THE EXISTING BOOK OF BUSINESS/POLICIES ARE SAFE AND RENEWALS WILL BE OFFERED)...this is due to the number of claims in this sector of the market...and not directly because of our customers....but customers underwritten via other brokers with Groupama Insurance.

I am working on a deal at the minute which should assist with rates and hopefully compete within the market...obviously as and when these becomes available I will post up the details...

We took over the handling and management of Subaru Insured in July 2002...and whilst it sometimes appears (on Scoobynet) that we are uncompetitive....I am happy to advise that in the 1st 12 months we have issued over 1200 new policies....with a premium income of in excess of £1,000,000.....we must be something right for some people....just sorry that we haven't managed to assist you guys on this occasion....

All the best....and apologies again..

Cheers

Sonic...sorry m8y....not sure whats happened here because we are still ok with European "parallel" imports, subject to security etc etc...and insurer acceptance.

I have since emailed the team to clarify the situation.

Thanks Rum

If I remember correctly it was Craig I spoke to, my insurance is due for renewal (currently with Liv Vic) at the end of November

I will need to get it sorted before then, as I will be in San Francisco driving to Las Vegas when it runs out !!
