Exclamation

Took my car to Quenbys Baldock this morning to have the right rear window looked at (after the bodyshop from hell messed the electrics up) and on picking up my courtesy car I see the following sign:

(from memory) 'it is with regret that due to circumstanced beyond control, excesses for all coutesy cars are now £1,000. If you do not wish to be liable for this excess you may pay £15 to reduce this excess to £250'

Is this fair or a bit of a money making scheme? If the excess is £1,000, what does the 'pre-payment' of £15 do to make a diference?

Reading in the small print, you can use your own insurance if you bring along a copy of the certificate, which I'll be doing next time. Watch out!

BTW, I wouldn't have minded so much if they were giving me an equivalent (WRX) or better car to use, but instead I got this monstrosity

Surely they have their policy details set in concrete with their insurance company, either they have a £1000 excess or they have a £250 excess. This is decided usually when you take out/accept the insurance policy.

I cant see how they can have the choice of changing their excess on a daily basis depending on what the driver of the coutesy car decides to do

I dont work in insurance so i cant say for definite but ive never heard of it before.

I don't understand it either - making me think it's a money scheme.

On another note, my jaw is still chattering from the vibrations I got off the pedals, steering wheel and gearstick of the 'mirth mobeeel'!

I think they will have an insurance company who would offer them a risk policy for £750 in exchange for a £15 premium so I dont think its a way of making money.

If you'd had a prang, in theory you would have had a £1,000 excess to pay...

Angry

And I've since found out ('cos I went to pay) that the charge is actually £17.23! (the £15 on the notice doesn't include VAT)

Be using my own insurance in the future.
