After taking out a policy with them, we got the standard letter requesting a tracker certificate!!
At the time of the quote, we were asked what security device was fitted and NOT "does it have a tracker?"
After we got the letter, we called them to make a complaint, which they told us would be addressed in due course and did we want to cancel free of charge? My wife told them we'd call back after getting some more quotes.
We left it there to get the info, and because we didnt call back within 1 week, they closed our complaint!! Grrrr really getting annoyed now.
I have now got to re-submit my complaint of "false selling" a policy in writing!!
Any pointer for what to rant about, and does anyone else have ANY info that could help our cause as we are starting to get really pi**ed off now

The amount of times I have heard of this happening...
It appears that many of the sales peeps at the direct companies clearly don't understand what a Tracker system actually is...
Quite worrying really...
Basically, if you have a turbocharged Scooby that you have insured with DL, Tesco or Privilege since around Nov 2001 and they haven't asked you to fit a tracker - check it with them - you may not have any theft cover.
Seems the cheapest ain't always the best...

We've had big style run in's wiv Tesco too. Took out a policy for a works vehicle that enables everyone to drive, they was the cheapest around.
Later a guy had a prang, they then refused to pay out saying that they do not cover for business purposes.
If you read the policy, the wording is such that the policy holder can use the car for business, but none of the other drivers can. They were told exactly what the policy was to cover over the phone.
Anyway we write, phone, send courier pigeons, never an answer ...

Zhastaph,
Did you not think to read your policy before using the vehicle ?
Yep, Tesco probably did get the cover wrong but its the policyholders responsibility to make sure that the cover stated on the policy documents is correct.
Personally I'd be surprised if they would cover a works vehicle in the 1st place. Its probably registered to the company (they normally only like privately owned cars) and the class of use required would need to be more substantial than just basic personal business use.

I am insured with Norwich union direct and they would not quote me on their web site without a tracker so phoned them when I got the car to say I was getting the tracker fitted in two days and they said it wasn’t necessary, just a thatcham cat1 was enough, got it in writing too. MY98 UK turbo wagon.

Nice one tony.... £767.00 with LVT saved a packet there... No need for tracker...sorted!
Shame I started the policy yesterday thinking I wouldn't get a better quote.. The cancellation charge is 12.5% and £15... I told them what they could do with that... Hopefully they will just charge for the 22hrs cover that I used purchased...
Cheers again..

Very strange quotes. Me thinks you are not telling the whole truth to the companies.
43years old 9yrs plus ncb, garaged, tracker, wife insured also top ncb, Tesco £530 plus protected ncb, hire car comes to £677.
Younger guys manage to get prices of between £500 and £600.
Something strange here don't you think ?
