Tesco no tracker!

Just purchased 02 wrx sports wagon and as tesco were my insurers stuck with them - to my amazement they said no tracker was required for my vechicle! I questioned it several times and was told point blank NO TRACKER REQUIRED - Took the details of the call person, have checked again and still no tracker needed.
My premium is £604 no tracker fully comp 5 years no claims, clean history and I'm 27 - I think that's quite good - isn't it?!

Makes sense to get a tracker anyway doesn't it?
When I looked for insurance EVERYWHERE wanted a tracking device - and I am 37 with clean license and full no-claims!

That is an excellent quote, even if you have to have tracker fitted. I'm 25 with an 03 wrx 4 door, and im paying £1500 with tracker, parked on drive and 7 yrs no claims.

Just remember that when I first looked, one of the insurance sites had my car down as a SPORT (based on reg no.)
Double check that your car is listed correctly. It will be YOUR fault if you take out cover for a wrong spec of car!
You actually pay less than I do for insurance - so something does not add up here!

Streetkid,
Ohhhh dear...
Someone at TXXXX.com clearly ain't got a clue what they are doing....
As of roughly November 2001 all Impreza Turbo models (incl WRX, Jap and UK variants) were required to be fitted with an approved tracking system when insured through D/Line, Privilege, Tesco, Egg etc.. (they're all the same company)... on the quote engine you cannot get past the screen that requests that you enter the model of tracker system fitted to your vehicle until you put one in... when you ring them their own in-house system does pretty much the same, but the operator can actually skip past it... also, many of the operators don't even know what a tracker is or what it does..
If you have insured a Scooby with them and they have -
Not told to fit a tracker
Told you to fit one but you haven't bothered yet
Told you to fit one but you haven't sent confirmation to them yet
then you will NOT have any theft cover - FACT
The only way in which you will get around it is if you insured a Scooby with them before they brought the ruling in. They will not come onto you and enforce it at renewal. They will honour the original terms until such time as you cancel the policy or change the vehicle.
The fact that you have checked many times and have been told the same thing worries me because if you have phoned them each time then it confirms that many of them don't know what they are doing.
This is one of the reasons why the General Insurance Standards Council has been set up. To protect the public from duff advice like this lot dish out.
You will probably find that they have rated your new car as a GX AWD - another one of their wonderful habits.
Be careful.

Well thanks for the advice, take this quite seriously really. My certificate came through today and states the exact car and model - me dads a lawyer says that the voice recording I've got is quite important!

Liv Vic do not require tracker on Scoobs... as a result they won't discount your premium if you fit one. They are one of the ever-diminishing number of insurers that don't require tracker on Scoobs.
Admiral, Elephant(same company), Churchill, Liv Vic, NU Direct and possibly Bell Direct all aren't bothered about Trackers.. in time they probably will be.. we'll see !
Privilege won't ask for a tracker on a UK STI 'cos it comes with one as standard. They normally want confirmation that it is fully operational though (subscription conf etc..)..
