If the worst happens and you need to have your car assessed by insurance I can understand that they'll notice something like full decat or other obvious external mods.
But what about remaps on the CPU ?? How do they spot that ?
Lets say I have mildly modded 02 WRX - like it have - I then get a TEK3 remap and prang the car.
Just wondered ...

Just say you've had an engine 'chip' - it doesn't frighten most insurers, especially those who are mod-friendly enough for the other changes you've made to warrant a Tek 3 in the first place.
If you don't mention it at all, you're not insured. It's that simple.

that is true Andy.
there is a slight difference with TEK though over say Apex'i.
With the apexi unit fitted I had no choice but to declare because its shiney and different and its obvious its been swapped over.
previously to this I was going to have Bob map my ecu with a TEK3 license, with the TEK there is a facility to switch back to OEM map (by pushing the window heater button on WOT?) which means there is scope for non declaration.
it is after all a reflashing of the OEM ecu so is stock to look at.
its a bad thing and you will go to hell for it, but you might save a couple of quid in the meantime.
its your money, its your choice so to speak.
