A little advice
Afternoon all , As you can see i'm new to the boards and would love a little help , i'm currently in the process of having my licence returned to me after 9 years , now my convictions are 5 years past ,most insurers i can see say you don't have to declare them after 5 , once i past my test again (booked in Jan 05) i was thinking of buying a scoob but i'm a little of putting due to my history .
Would my old conviction be held against me if i did have an accident even thou they are over 5 years old and would they insure me as a drive of 13 years , so my provisional says .
Cheers for your time

I would disclose all your convictions & let the propsective insurer/broker decide whether or not they have an effect on your premium.

Most companies in general go back 5 years, some just 3......but, any drink driving convictions or any other motoring conviction code starting 'D' some companies go back 10 years.

Hi
In applying for insurance you are likely to be asked "Have you been disqualified in the last 5 years ?".Even although the answer is actually yes because of the provisions of The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 you are able to answer No to that question. This is because in legal terms the conviction is "spent" ie dead and buried. For a fuller explanation refer to lawontheweb.co.uk.This should mean that you should be quoted the same premium as someone of your age who has not owned a car before. It will not be cheap but insuring Scoobs seldolm is.
Should you have any non motoring convictions for dishonesty etc (and I'm not suggesting for a moment that you have) then the same web site tells you if those need to be disclossed. Many insurance companies ask specific questions about these convictions and even if they do not you would be expected to tell them about them under the duty of disclosure of material facts.
Yes I know all insurance companies are robbing barstewards who make up the premiums as they go along but if I can help any more please let me know.If you still have problems getting quotes I should be able to make a few suggestions.

Driving Bans
As you are taking a test next month I assume that this was a condition of regaining a licence.I have already mentioned that the bans need not be mentioned because of laws covering that very point. If you are still unconvinced I suggest you contact Quoteline Direct by telephone (see their website) as they specialize in convicted drivers as do John Henshall on 0800 064 3757.Their bread and butter is footballers from the premiership so they are used to fast cars and less than clean licences.
