fcuking mods!

******* mods!
Insurance renewal - £475 at privilege. Lovely. Read the small print "no mods, call" So I call.
£888!
Thats only cosmetic stuff, and I wasn't even that bothered for them to cover the cost of replacement - I'd have taken OEM Subaru parts if it had meant lower insurance.
Wheels, front and rear 3rd party spoiler/lip, prodrive backbox and prodrive springs.

Norwich Union Direct are OK'ish about mods, especially cosmetic ones (wheels, backbox etc), they'll load about 10% per catagory, (body 10%, wheels 10% etc...)
Basically they're all crooks, it's just a question of finding which one's gonna shaft ya the least !.

hello
you dont know me im abit new but:
i got insurance through A-plan they insure any mods you have done to the car even if engine or cosmetic, and they where the cheapest i could find believe me, as my first qoute for my impreza was £5000, my next quote was £3500 with all mods declared, A - plan insured me for £1500 fully comp protected no claims, i know you are probably think that is still quite high but this is my first impreza and its fully modded and its an imported wrx sti type R, seriouly give them a bell.
cheers

WTF is going on! I just phoned Adrian Flux (you know... specialist for high performance and modified cars) and explained the turbo, remap, decat plan as above. They said no problem...on any car other than an Impreza. Apparently due to excess claims over the last year they cant underwrite the policies. Anybody any ideas where to try next?

If Privilege are cheap then try both Elephant & Admiral.
It's the same company & they accept modifications via the website although one website is often cheaper than the other. You can just tick which mods you have & see how they effect the premium.

I told him I would think about it.
if you say its a small spoiler u might as well say you have no spoiler at all....sad but true, the STI spoiler is the largest of the large

i'm with them and my cars modified and although it seems they will continue covering existing policies, are they just going to force your hand into leaving them by putting your premium thru the roof?
bloody hope not, but it does seem a logical thing to do if you want modded cars off your books

Don't they (LV) have a duty toward existing customers? I will check my documents later and see. I called them recently about the vandalisation to my car and told them about the recent sp30 I got and they said it would make no difference to the premium at all. They said they would look at the premium regarding my new wheels at renewal so will have to wait and see. Renewal is mid Feb so fingers crossed.
Plus I am looking into a new chip so it would be a total waste of money if LV weren't willing to insure me because of it...

I have been with LV for 4 years now, with a modded Impreza, which I sold in November and bought a standard Evolution VIII, I have just changed the exhaust (couple of weeks ago) and when I rang them, they said "we'll have to check with underwriter, if they'll cover it". She then came back and said " yep, no problem, no premium increase, new paperwork on it's way to you", sure enough the new schedule turned up next day listing mods as exhaust modifications.
So I guess my point is, they take each case on it's own merits and as an existing customer you'll probably not have any problem.

I've just rang LV about my renewal. They say - no engine mods, no visual performance enhancing (cosmetic) mods, but a change in alloy wheels is okay though!
Premium is about the same as last year - £834
Will still shop around though -any suggestions?

err, dont get too excited Soulgirl.
wait till you get the paperwork through that catagorically states ECU modifications....
I am an existing customer and thankfully all my major mods were done in october
a) before renewel
b) before rule change
since then, many have got paperwork through with no mod listing, when they called back they were told its not allowed........
as for loading the premium, my renewel did go up with L&V, but about £3
