Default Shopping around for insurance?

I'm shopping around for car insurance at the moment and thought that I would post up some of the names of the cheapest companies I have had quotes from.....
UK Subaru Impreza 2000 AWD (W reg) 28yrs old, 8yrs NCD, No accident or convictions etc Location Essex
Mods: Hayward & Scott Back Box and Centre De-Cat, Aftermarket Mudflaps, Clear Front & Side indicators.

A-Plan Insurance £799, no tracker needed , (excess of £250) but monthly payments takes this up to £870.88

Privelidge £724 No interest on monthly payments , (excess of £600 ) Tracker needed @ £120 Total = £844.??

Direct Line were quite good as well@ £890.40 interest free monthly payments, Tracker is needed though! Total £1010.40

I will update this thread as and when I find any cheaper companies and will post a link when I have finished phoning around so you can see all the phone numbers I have called with comments (It's a long list!!!!) a bit geeky I know, but the quotes I have had, range from £1700 to £724, so it does pay to phone as many companies as possible!!

The most frustrating has been esure as they have a Call Centre in India! I had to repeat everything twice took ages to complete and I am too polite to just hang up..

Have you tried Tesco, recently bought a UK STi in the wifes name with me as a named driver, 8yrs ncb no claims or accidents, with a tracker their quote came out at £665 but if you buy on line you get a 10% discount so £600.

Thanks for the reply, but yes I have, as I'm currently insured with them. My renewal was £909 (£600 excess), pushed for a better price and that went down to £821 (£600 excess!).

Asked why they didn't give me the better price to start with!?! No logical answer was given!

So now they have lost my business... No skin off my noise as I always shop around.

Trying to get a figure for under £700 but have a few more calls to make, will have to wait to see what turns up

Might be worth trying Greenlight Insurance. They seem to be quite competitve if you haven't had a crash. Tel number is: 08707 53 54 55.

I would be interested to see how you get on.

Just phoned them and spoke to a guy called Darren, they have given the best quote so far due to the lower excess of £400! No Tracker is needed.

£727.75 (excess £400) monthly breakdown = £150.55 deposit + 11 x x£63.33 Total = £846.08

Curtesy car and legal was not mentioned! (Would want both of these included)

Policy is underwritten by Highway!?!

Has anyone had any problems with HIGHWAY in the past? Darren said they were good if you wanted to add mods in the future!

I pay £550 fully comp with Direct Line I'm 29 with 9 NCB I stay in Glasgow.
I had to check the quote several times because everywhere was quoting me a grand or above.

I went through Firebond (0870 4440556) and they placed me with a company called Haven (never heard of them, but they are good with basic mods, air filter, exhaust, rims etc and don't charge any extra for them).

Im 25 with 7 yr's ncb, 1 sp50 with 7 day ban, and I pay £760 fully comp for my 96 Sti v3. With the above mods listed.

Not a bad price seeing as everywhere else wanted £1400 upwards.

cossie01 (Cheers)

My postcode must be a bad area !?!

Spoke to Firebond (Policy underwritten by Haven) (Excess £300) £770 (£231.96 + 10 x £58.02) NO Tracker is needed. Total for year £812.16

The cheapest yet (on Monthly payments) but if anyone else has any recommendations I'd be really grateful.

The tracker would reduce this by £60, but the years subscription is £120 LOL

Really looking to get into the £700 bracket !!!

Default Little Known Insurance Companies

Hi - Highway have been around for quite some time but have a poor reputation for servicing and claims handling.I would suggest that you ensure all the i's and t's are dotted and crossed most carefully especially for any mods or extras.

Haven are a new outfit and are very much an unknown quantity.,

Good point, will have to double check, I think that it is a slightly worse area, not 100% sure yet though, I did a price comparison on both postcodes for a Pug 306 diesel (second car, yet to be bought) and the premium for that went up by about £10! Hope the Scoob quote isn't effected

I thought I'd finish this thread off by saying that I have gone with A-Plan for my next years insurance......

£699 Fully Comp Protected NC (28 yrs, clean liecence - 8 yrs NCD) No Tracker (£250 excess)

Garanteed courtesy car for the duration of repairs

Mods;
Tein Springs (lowered 30mm), Hayward & Scott Back box and Centre De-cat, Clear front and side repeaters, Aftermarket Mud flaps, Leather interior as an option from new (thats is for now )

Hope this has been of help to anyone looking, all I can say is shop around before you go to them let them know your cheapest quote and if you get a better quote go back to A-Plan, you'll be suprised by the fact that they'll try and beat any other quote you may get.

Jonathan is the guy I've been dealing with - very friendly and knows what he is talking about - a refreshing change Tel 01635 874 646 (office hours)

with norwich union, (not norwich union direct),they were alot dearer, no tracker needed.
