My best renewal

Spoke to all of the companies mentioned in the last 60 days of threads - quotes clearly differ wildly for each person. Anyway RAC beat the second best quote by 130 quid. They did me 900 quid fully comp, 175 Excess (miles better than anyone else) and declared 17" wheels (no extra charge). Pissed off a bit 'cos last year it was 750 from AXA via a broker(who wanted 1050 this year despite 1 more year of no claims!!!).
Me 29, Wife 31, Business 1, 65% no claims.

RAC came in second best with me but miles ahead of most others. Only company to beat them were my existing insurers - Norwich Union direct. 475 with 250 excess. Not too shabby.

robman,
I am in exactly the same position as you, I am currently with AXA through Catteralls, I paid £720 last year, I just got my renewal through and this year they want £956.
I am 34 with a completely unblemished 17 years worth of driving, IAM member, cat 1 alarm, garaged I do less than 10K per year (now I've stopped contracting) and they still want the best part of a grand for what is essentially a weekend car!
I am going to start looking in earnest tomorrow for a better quote, however, I think it may be hard work.

and tesco's - there website seems to be a whitelabel of Direct Lines, so I guess they are the same companies, Tesco's seem to be cheaper though.... I'm with direct line rather than Tescos, can't remember why though ![](http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif)

I,ve just taken out my first policy with Axa through A-Plan (01225 469111) who beat the Axa online quote. I paid £890 fully comp, 25yr old, Class 1, 4yr NCB and SP30 on a MY00. This includes NCB protection that was charged at £100.

this must be a ploy by axa.
i too insured with axa through catteralls last year. when my renewal came through it had risen by £285 me 42 rb5 ppp and wife 38 no accident or convictions and with tracker up to £1034 .
needless to say i went elsewhere, in fact tesco £580, do for me.

AXA did the same to me up from £550 to £977. I do remember that the £550 was an exceptionaly good deal last year though.
Anyway, still hunting before my renewal on 3/5, got a tentative £650 just waiting for the extra cost for the mods, the usual suspects Direct Line, NFU, Admiral are all over £800 to £1300.

Sasim,
£550 is exceptional in any year![](http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif)
If your paying near a grand with an untainted driving history, it must be your post code that hiking-up the premium.
It appears to be quite common to give heavy discounts on new customers by certain insurance companies - Axa, Admiral to name just a few.
Since parting with my company car 3 years ago, I've had to change insurers every year due to them increasing the premium. Last year Axa insured my car, but they wanted an extra £250 on the premium this year. I'm now with Adrian Flux for £750 - that's £550 less than Axa !!!!
You'd think the insurance companies would encourage some customer loyalty. Guess they just don't want repeat business anymore![](http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif)

Oh, forgot to mention. Tesco wanted a Tracker fitted to my Scooby when I asked for a quote.
Adrian Flux, Direct Line, Tesco were the best 3 for me. About £150 covered the lot.

Can you believe it? The cheapest I've got is my renewal!!! £666 with Eagle Star direct. 1999 RB5 (non-prodrivce), 34yrs old, full NCB, mileage limited to 5,000, GU postcode, no accidents to convictions. I'm sure that is LESS than what I paid last year. Result
