Cool

I enquired to DL as to how mods wood affect my premium & woz told that if i got new/improved air filter & exhaust if it increased my power, on my freshly purchased MY97, by up2 10% it wood increase my premium from an already healthy £1450 (but by far the cheapest i found as a 24 year old) to about £1947 although this wood also cover any improved alloys. Having said that thou since my car is currently 100% original spec i am very tempted 2 get new alloys so would be intreged about wot they say if i just did those? hmm, watch this space then........

Question

Hi all

Has anyone had any experience with Directline and their attitude towards minor mods(eg exhausts,bump-steer,filters,etc.)

Cheers

Pete

Thumbs up

Peter,

I reecently added a PPP and Eibach springs onto a Directline policy. No charge for the springs and £75 for the PPP. They even recognise the PPP one the certificate.

Interestingly I got a very different line. Any mods that were dealer options (including all Prodrive bits) were no additional charge. I did get stung on the suspension upgrade that wasn't Prodrive! No charge for brake upgrades or light changes.

Looks like they are not too consistent!

Question

Hi,
Would Prodrive alloys (17") and a Prodrive high level spoiler be classed as dealer options, although these were retro fitted...

Jamie,
Looking through the other posts re this I suspect it depends on who you talk to on the other end of the phone and how you pitch it.

I would agreed with that. I got told it was an extra £45 to put a Magnex on my Sport for 6 months.... rather more than £24

Angry

Well Direct Line quoted me GBP834 for a bog-standard MY01, but this SHOT up to GBP1223 with PPP.

As they say on their own advert - "stupid, just stupid"!!!!!

Funny you mention this cos I posted http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=52308 mentioning the fact they wanted to charge me for upgrading components!

Check it out!

Well, just added a Scoobysport backbox, K&N induction kit, additional scoops in place of the bonnet grilles, and clear indicators to my MY98 - extra £70. Didn't think it was too bad considering.

Although the lady I spoke to sounded like my Gran, she was switched on about things. I thought I'd have to explain the new bonnet scoops, but no: "oh, those'll be to channel the cold air in then?" Couldn't have put it better myself!

Like the man said - seems to depend who you talk to.

Cheers,
Steve

Wink

I think age has something to do with this but.....
If your younger than say 30, its going to cost you more as your supposedly in a higher risk group.
Adding a PPP to my MY00 scoob with direct line cost me an extra 111 quid (just after renewal, high risk area etc) alloys (PD7's) cost an extra 78 quid, brake upgrade cost nothing
When i add a D/P its going to go up again (as if it wouldnt ) but so far im paying 1189 fully comp, prot no claims, 2 accidents (company cars) so that doesnt help

Tony - I think you're right. Knew there must be some advantage to me being 36!

Further info - I'm in Worcestershire, car parked on drive, full no claims (protected), obligatory legal protection, premium comes to just over £700.

Take off the no-claims protection and it drops by £100!!

So, by the time I'm my dad's age, it should cost about £100 for my insurance! (yeah, right - I wish! )

Cheers,
Steve

Has anyone asked what discount they'd get if they had house insurance with direct line aswell as their motor insurance. When I bought my first house they were the cheapest for me, about a third of the building societies quote so I took out a policy and discovered that my motor insurance dropped by quite a chunk. Not sure what the percentage is but it's worth looking into, you could save money on your home and motor going this way. Give them a call or logon to the directline website and select the "do you have a house policy with us" box and watch it drop. I think mine went from say £850 to £730, then I put the bird on as a named driver and it went back upto £830, then I took the bird off and it went back to £730 and stayed there.

Cheers,

boultsy.
