Question Young Scooby Driver!!!

Hey all i am about to become the proud owner of a 1994 subaru impreza wrx import, but after searching hundreds of insurance companies ive only been able to come up with one lower than normal quote from Quote-A-Car of £2091. Is this the lowest price im going to end up paying or do any of you think ill get it cheaper, i'm 20 years old with 18months driving under my belt and 1 year no claims bonus, cheers.

Well its basically young driver, no experience so high premium, no way around it really, if you want a performance car when your young, your going to be paying for it though your teeth and the highest accident rates are 17-25 year old male drivers.

Hi mate i am 23 with 4 years ncb and got my sti 3 insured with a plan for £1500, which was half of what everybody else was asking. Gary moulson would not even quote me due to my age.

Might be worth trying elephant. Avoid Quote-A-Car like the plague, only ever heard bad things about them

Matt,

I think they do it that way because you shouldnt be the named driver of your own car, which is illegal, they (as i see it) are saying that if you dont have a car and use someone elses and are on their insurance, then you build up your ncb that way

Will direct line be the only people to actually recognise the 'no-claims' built up by being a named driver?

As some companies who push the 10 month bonus accelerator insurance plans, and then when you try to move company to get a more competitive quote they dont recognise it?

Tell you want mate at 20 years old anything under 3k is bloody good! (i take it that is fully comp?), to be honest if i owned an insurance company i wouldnt insure anyone on a high-power car with only 18 months experience, i'd just go with it mate.

Saying that i found elephant to be the cheapeast 'decent' insurance company, and they quote online....might be worth a try?

Good luck!

Tony...

You guys are legendary!, £1497 fully comp sounds more than good to me, thats with the missus and my mods declared. Many thanks to Darren and the other guys that helped me out today, had a little trouble with the payment due to my old company dragging thier heels with my refund but we got there in the end...

Trems=happy bunny!

Thanks guys.

Yeah but how are you ever going to get your own insurance if you don't build up no claims?....plus its not very fair on your mum if you lose all her no claims either, not saying you would but its a possibility.

I think when it comes to having your dream car you just got to take the hit for the first few years, the good thing about companies like greenlight is they seem to reward you for having previous claim-free experience of powerful cars which is most admirable in my opinion, as its a much better way of assessing risk levels than your age or if you've been flashed by a gatso doing 37 in a 30.

I have heard of some companies who will send claim investigators to your neighbours house to ask who is the main user of the car, and will also ask your mum questions about it aswell. Also any reciept or invoive in you name will also give the companies a reason to get out of paying.
