I've got my main policy (MY98 Turbo) with Tesco's and they told me I couldn't use my NCD even if I used them (Tesco's) for my second policy

Can someone explain to me why No Claims Discount should be attached to a vehicle and not a person? Why can't I use my FNCD on both my vehicles?

I had this problem last week, apparently the NCD can only be used on one vehicle, as if you're gonna drive them both at the same time

The only way you can normally is to insure your second vehicle with the same insurer. Alternatively you can build up a full NCD on a second vehicle. I have two policies with different insurers with full NCD.

Try this:
1) Insure your second car with your present insurer.
2) At year end transfer first vehicle to new insurer with full NCD (your renewal will state this).
3) Leave second vehicle with original insurer with full NCD (as far as they are concerned you have full NCD).
4) To do this make sure the insurance on your cars is staggered.

Cool

People like Direct line and the insurance service give you a big discount on your second car.
Then follow above. I didnt say you could use your NCD twice with one company, only that you have to earn it for two cars. The above method being a shortcut. It worked for me.
Of course it is best to earn it with two different insurers (two different cars) then there is no arguement later.

Oh and if you go and ask an insurance company if the above is possible, dont expect to get it.

I have full NCD on two cars and one motorbike.

Both my cars are with Direct Line and as far as I am aware I got no discount for adding the second? I have FNCD on a bike too, but thats a different situation unfortunately. I guess I just bite the bullet, however pathetic it is (and lets be honest it really is).

I will try your shortcut approach though, nothing to lose!

I didn't know there was a problem with NCB and differant cars.

I've got a 306 DT insured under my name with 4 yrs NCB. (my other half drives the car...) I've also got an Alfa155 again insured with 4yrs NCB. Insurance with differant companies AA - Pug, Direct Line - Alfa. When insuring the second car they asked for proof of NCB. As my proof had been sent to the AA for the Pug i didn't have it. I wrote a letter detailing NCB and why i didn't have any proof and they sent a reply saying cheers and all is satisfactory.

That's it. Nothing about NCB-only-on-one-motor type stuff.

Oh well... Lucky i guess

Thumbs up

Just following on from what Rum said, yes it is all sorted! Many thanks to Schofield insurance for taking the trouble to track me down through my e-mail address, calling me up and saving me money! Why can't all companies be like this!

Anyway a total result, so if any of you are having similar problems drop Tom (Rum) a line on 0113 2500377.

No connection by the way, just a happy customer!
