Default Cover for towing

Having just bought a bike trailer, can anyone advise on what I should do for insurance cover?
My bike policy covers me on two bikes so I assume covers me rather than the bikes. I assume that the bike won't be covered while on a trailer.
Do I need to make arrangements with my car insurers?
Should I get seperate cover for the bike/trailer combo?

Cheers for any help
Simon

Hi Simon,

Firstly, most car Insurance policies include a provision for towing (trailer/caravan etc) which ensures that liability to other parties (third party liability cover) is automatically included whilst the trailer is attached to the Insured (ie. your) vehicle.

You do not need to make arrangements with your car Insurers, you simply need to check your policy booklet to ensure this common extension in respect of towing is within your policy - contact your Insurer if unsure.

With regard to theft, or damage, you would need to source cover separately for the bikes, then the trailer if required.

We purely cover performance, modified & kit built vehicles, but if you look out for 'Maclean' on here, he seems to be very informative as to which Insurer would be ideal for most eventualities & he would be well worth PM'ing

Kind regards

Tony

Simon, when did you pass your test. If you passed after about 1995 ?? then you need to take a seperate towing test to be legal on the road.

Check out the DVLA website for the full jargin.
